To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, Louis DRAGON, asubject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Duvernay, in the Province of Alberta, Canada, and whose post-ottice address is Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Tongue Steadiers, of which the following is a specification.
The tongues of wagons are continually swayed and jerked laterally by the irregularities of the roadway which is a source of annoyance to horses and drivers.
The object of the invention is to prevent this lateral jerking and steady the tongue.
The invention consists in adjusting on top of the swaybar of any wagon a toothed rack and attaching on each side of the reach or under the bottom of the box, a pinion of small diameter connected with the rack and with the cogs of a long and heavy cylinder, and also attached to the side of the reach or under the box; these cylinders act as fly wheels.
The efiect of the wagon wheel, coming suddenly in contact with the obstructions of the roadway, is deadened, by the motion having to overcome the resistance of this gearing, while the team of horses can turn to the right or to the left without feeling the effect of the gear.
The drawings attached to the present specification represent: Figure I a plan view of the swaybar. Fig. 11 is a rear view in elevation of the device.

The rack is secured on the top of the swaybar, pinions fixed to each side of the attached to and reach to fit into the cogs of the rack, and heavy cyhnders bearlng a row of cogs to fit the pinions, are also attached on each side of the reach so as to oii'cr a greater inertia to the rotation of pinions. Thus adjusted, the invention will deaden the shocks of anything, large or small, that may be in the track of the wheels.
Having thus described minutely, the de tails of the invention, be it understood that variations and modifications may be introduced provided they remain within the scope of the following claim:
1. A wagon tongue steadier which consists of a rack adjusted on top of the swaybar; pinions attached to the reach and engaging in the cogs of the rack and of one or more cylinders also attached to the reach for the purpose and in the manner herein above described.
2. A wagon tongue steadier which con sists of a rack secured to the top of the swaybar; pinions attached under the box and engaging in the cogs of the rack and of one or more cylinders also attached under the box for the purpose herein described.
