, UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
JAMES HIGGINS, OF SALEM CROSSING, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND WM. S. MEDARAS.
IMPROVED BABY-CARRIAG E.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 103,882, dated June 7, 1870.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES HIGGINS, of Salem Crossing, in the county of La Porte and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Baby-Carriages; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to compound cradles and carriages for children; and the improvement consists in attaching the cradle to the running-gear so that it will be both firmly held and at the same time easily detached by simply removing a bolt.
The accompanying drawing represen t-s a perspective view of a baby-carriage constructed according to my invention.
A is the body of the carriage, to which rockers B B are attached, either permanently or removably. The rear end of the body rests on the rear axle, with the rocker B projecting over the axle, as seen in the drawing. The reach of the running-gear passes through the rocker B at the front end of the body, and the kingbolt passes up from the forward axlethrough the rocker and the reach and the bottom ofthe body. The king-bolt is fast in the forward axle. The rear portion of the body is confined between stakes O G in the rear axle. Bythis arrangement it,will be seen that the body A may be readily removed from the axles by simply raising it, and when so removed it forms a perfect cradle ready for use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A compound cradle and baby carriage formed of a body and rockers held in position upon the running-gear by means of the easilydetachable king-bolt in the front axle and the fixed stakes O G on the rear axle, all as set forth, and for the purpose described.
