ATEN OFFICE.
Specification of Lettersfatent. Patented Sept. 17, 1912.
Application mearebriiar 28, 1912. Serial No. 680,472.
To all whom it ma' 'eoacem Be it known that I, WILLIAM. J. Prr'r, .a
' subject of the King. of England, and resi-ding at The Elms, Bodmin, Cornwall, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carving-Dishes, of which the following isa specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains tofmake and use the same.
This invention relates to carving dishes and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class having means for securing a roast on the dish andalso provided with means for draining the said roast; a further object being to provide a carving dish. which may be used for other purposes; and with these and other objects in view, thein'vention consists in a dish of the class specified, constructed vas hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the acco'mpanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable, reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a plan view of my improved carving dish;.'Fig. 2 a bottom plan view thereof; Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 a section on the line 4-4 of Fig.1. Fig. 5 is a plahe view of a modified form of my invention. Fig. 6 is a side elevation ofthis modified form. Fig. 7 is a vertical cross seot-ion'on line 77 of Fig. 5.
- In the practice of my invention as shown.
in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive I'provide a dish a which is preferably elliptical in form and which is provided with a central raised table portion 12 at one end or the center of which is a recess a, and extending around the raised table portion 1 and around the recess a and communicating with said recess is a groove 03. The central raised portion 6 is above the rim 0? of the dish and is provided in the top surface thereof with a deep longi-.
tudinal groove 0 and a transverse groove f.
The groove 6 is larger at one end than at the other and the larger end thereof com-' municates with the recess 0 and the opposite end of said groove is closed: and the groove f crosses the groove eand communicates therewith and both ends thereof are closed. asishown at F, and formed in the wall of the raised central portion 1)- at the ends of the groove f areradial passages 9' through which a skewer'or skewers k may be passed and these radial passages ,pre erably slightly inclined upwardly so thata skewer passed th'erethroughi would surface of the raised central portion 1) of the dish is preferably provided with transverse and longitudinal grooves forming correspondingly upwardly directed teeth or projections z, and the bottom of the dish or that part thereof under the central raised portion 1) is concave or formed into a dish shaped purposes or said dish may be inverted, and used for any other purpose desired.
In practice, a roast or other meat to be carved is placed on the central raised portion I) and a skewer or skewers are passed through the apertures or passages 9 into the meat and said meat is held on the dish and may be carved in the usual manner and any juices or liquids in the meat flow into the grooves e'iind f and into the recess 0 or into the annular groove (1? and into said recess.
The dish a may be made of any preferred material and of any desired shape, ellipti.cal or circular shapes being preferred, and in Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive I have shown a dish, similar in all respects to that shown in Figs. 1'to4 inclusive except that the recess 0 which: serves as a well extends transversely across the central raised. portion or table of the dish, and the groove d around said centra raised portion or table connects with both ends. thereofe and the longitudinal central groove e also connects therewith.
' Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
-1. A carving dish provided with a central -raised. portion around which is a deep groove, said central raised portion being also provided with a recess with which said groove communicates, and said central raised portion being also provided in the enter the meat lying on the dish. The top receptacle j, in the form of construction shown, and the dish may be used in'the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3 for carving.
top surface thereof with grooves which cross said recess the ends of said last namedv groove being closed and provided with apertures,.,,through which a skewer may be passed.
"2. A carving dish provided with a central raised portion at one end of which is a recess and around which 1s a deep groove which communicates with said recess, the
7 said recess and the other of which is closed at its ends and communicates with the groove which communicates wlth the recess,
10 the closed ends of the last named grooves being provided with apertures throughwhich skewers may be passed.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 'my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing wltnesses this tenth'day of February 1912.
