Be it known that I, PEMBROKE D.HARTON, v a citizen of the United States, residing in Fhilaclelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Cake-Coating Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cake coating machines; and the ohjectof my invention is to provide a machine for @iepositing soft dough,
macaroon, melte fondant, chocolate, marshmallow paste, or other material of a similar or like nature, upon the surface of halted cakes which are feel by suitable means to a common depositing point.
My invention is fully shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

The hopper iscarried by a suitable supportin arm 3 extending from a bracket 4, which arm is longitudinally aperturecl at 5 for the passage of a feeding structure which is combined with the partition plate. ihis feeding structure comprises feeding passages 6 on the opposite side of said partition plate for two kinds of material. This member is secureti to the feecling structure by means of plates 9 secured by screws 10.

The nozzles for delivering the material to be deposited are then lowered into contact with the cakes, and compression of such material within the feeding structure due to the telescoping of one part with respect to the other as described, will cause such material to flow onto said cakes, and during such action the feeding means are replenished with such material to be deposited. This is accomplished in the following manner: The hopper for the coating material has its bottom openingnormally closed by plates or ribs 30 disposed on both sides of the central partition plate 2 and lying at a point just below the bottom wall 31 of said hopper. Arranged tomove opposite the feeding device in the wall of the same, are'pistons 32 connected -at' 3 3 to links 34:, which links are in turn connected to bell-crank-levers 35 pivoted at 36 and operated by means of rods 37 from cams 38 driven by the main driving shaft of the ma chine. .Upon lowering the feeding device, the central partition plate carries the material down, and the ribs 30 of the same.

I claim:
1. 'In a cake coating machine, the combination of means for feeding cakes to a common point, means for maintaining said cakes in such position, a hopper'having compartments for coating material, a vertically movable structure forming .a bottom for said hopper and having a plurality of chambers communicating with said compartments, outlet nozzles communicating with said chambers for the simultaneous deposition upon each cake of coating material from each chamber, horizontally disposed pistons for moving said coating material to the chambers of the bottom structure, and means for moving said bottom independently of the hopper to bring said nozzles into proximity with the cakes.
In a cakecoating machine, the combination of means for feeding cakes, an icing hopper, delivery spouts communicating with said hopper, a partition plate for said hopper whereby the latter may contain material of different kinds for trically arranged delivery spouts, said partition plate carrying the bottom of the hop per which is normally closed, and means for moving said plate whereby the bottom may be opened for the delivery of the material.
3. In a cake coating machine, the combination of a hopper for coating material, a movable partition plate in said hopper, ribs carried by said plate and forming a movable bottom for the hopper, lateral passages arranged below said hopper, feed passages disposed below said lateral passages, said lateral passages being in communication with the hopper when the partition plate is in one position and in communication with the feed passages when the partition plate s in another position, and means for causmg a flow of material into said lateral passages, the ribs of said partition plate form mg a valve and holding the coating ma terial against upward movement when extruded from the nozzles.
4.
