To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RENY A. BREAKFIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madrid, in the county of Boone and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Apparatus for Treating Rheumatism, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a device of durable, simple and inexpensive construction, whereby a slight amount of electricity may be generated from certain metals, by utilizing the moisture and acids of the skin.

My invention consists in certain details, in the arrangement, construction, and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows an end elevation of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 shows a horizontal sectional View through the same. Fig. 3 shows a horizontal sectional view of part of the device on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

In the accompanying drawings, I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate a sheet of zinc rectangular in form and preferably considerably longer than it is wide. Adjacent to the sheet of zinc, I place a sheet of copper 11 of the same length as the strip of zinc and somewhat wider. At the sides the strips of zinc and copper are bent around copper wires 13 which run longitudinally along the sheets of zinc and copper as shown in Fig. 2. The sheet of zinc 10 extends part way around the copper wire and the sheet of copper 11 extends practically the full distance around said copper wire. The copper sheet being made of somewhat soft material, forms a con venient means for holding the zinc sheet and the copper wires together. For securing the wires 13 together in front of the body, I have provided the following means: A plate or block 1 1 is provided with loops 15 to which the wires which go over the shoulders are secured. Extending longitudinally through the plate 14 is a slot or passage 16. On the side of the plate 14: opposite the loops 15, I provide lugs 17, extending into said slot 16. The free ends of the parts of the wires 13 which pass around the waist are provided with notches 18. When the free ends of said wires are inserted into said slot, the notches 18 engage the lugs 17 as shown in Fig. 1. By pressing the free ends of the wires 13 together, they may be removed from the slot 16.

I claim as my invention:

1. A zinc plate, a copper plate somewhat wider than said zinc plate, placed adjacent thereto, copper wires, the sides of said zinc and copper plates being bent around said wires, with the sides of the copper plate extending farther around said wire than the sides of the zinc plate.
