PORTABLE HAMMOCK-FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1912.
Application filed March 28, 1912. Serial No. 686,980.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK W. HIBBS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sarasota, in the county of Manatee and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Hammock-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in portable hammock frames, and it consists in the constructions, combinations and arrangements herein described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved portable hammock frame adapted to firmly support a hammock, and which can be readily collapsed and compactly packed for storage or transportation.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, and in which similar reference symbols indicate corresponding parts in the several views :Figure 1 is a side elevation, illustrating one embodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan View of the construction shown in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the side members of a rigid triangular frame, which are secured together by pins 2 to constitute the apex of the triangle and connected by a base member 3, which latter is shown secured in position by eye bolts 4:; said several members being preferably formed of wood.
A rigid strut 5 is provided adjacent to its ends with projecting pins 6 and 7 A wire rope, or other flexible connection, 8 is secured to the eye bolts 1 and provided with an eye for engaging said pin 6, and a similar flexible connection 9 is provided with eyes which slip over the lower ends of the members 1 and 5 and are retained in position by projecting cross pins 7 and 10 in said members.
A wire rope, or other flexible member, 11 is secured to the lower end of the strut 5 and drawn taut and lashed to the jointed ends of the frame members 1; I have shown such flexible member 11 provided with a pulley, or eye, 12 at a distance from its free end to provide a convenient and eflicient tightening means therefor. The hammock is lashed to the upper ends of the rigid members 1 and 5 and maintained in position thereon by the projecting pins 2 and 6.
From the above description, it will be clear that my invention provides a strong and rigid hammock frame, which can be compactly stored away and readily adjusted for use.
I claim In a portable hammock frame, the combination of a rigid triangular frame, a rigid strut, branched flexible connections between each end of said strut and the base angles of said triangular frame, means for connecting a hammock to the apex of said triangular member and one end of said rigid strut, and an adjustable flexible connection between the other end of said strut and the apex of said triangular member.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK W.- HIBBS. Witnesses:
JOHN W. PHILIP, OSCAR A. BURTON.
