To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOU C. DASHNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Point Pleasant, in the county of Mason and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Match-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a match box and has for its primary object to provide a match box in which matches may be singly ejected in successive manner from the same.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a match box which is simple in construction thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation and inexpensive in manufacture.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a match box constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4: is a sectional view on the line 47 1 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a top plan view showing the slide open.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.

Referring to the drawings by numerals the match box comprising a body 5 preferably constructed from metal, having closed top and bottom 6 and 7 respectively, and rounded front and rear edges 8, the top 6 being formed with an opening 9, which latter is normally closed by means of a slide 10, which engages guide flanges 11 formed on the said top, the slide 10 being provided with an upturned finger grip 11 whereby the same may be readily opened and closed, and when open the matches may be readily inserted in the body 5 for the filling thereof.

The front rounded edge 8 is formed with a thickened inner wall 12, the same being formed with opposed forwardly converging beveled surfaces 13 at the inner side thereof which merge into a longitudinal channel or groove 14 forming a. match seat for receiving a single match for its ejection from the body of the matches being singly ejected from the latter through the opening 9, when desired in a manner presently described.

The outer face of the front rounded edge 8 is provided with a longitudinal guide way 15 in which is slidably mounted an ejector bar 16 the same being held within the guide way 15 by means of metal straps 17 bridging said guideway 15 at opposite ends thereof the straps being secured to the body 5 in any suitable manner.

The ejector bar 16'is formed at its lower end with an inturned lip or rib 18 which normally lies flush with the inner face of the bottom 7 so as to engage the lower end of a match for pushing it outwardly through the opening 9 for the striking of the same by the user. Said bar 16 has formed medially of the same an outwardly extending finger projection 19 having a knurled outer face or edge 20, and is adapted for enabling the ready moving of the bar 16 for singly ejecting matches from the box. The lip or rib 18 working in a slot 21 near the bottom of the body so as to engage each match when resting within the seat 14, for ejecting the same from the box.

The outer surface of the bottom 7 of the body 5 is knurled or roughened to form a match scratching face 22, as usual.

What is claimed is:

A match box comprising a receptacle having a bottom wall with a recess and an end wall provided at its inner face with a longitudinal channel forming a match seat adapted to receive a single match for ejection, a longitudinal groove formed in the outer face of the end wall to provide a guide-way, a top movable on the receptacle and adapted to expose the upper end of said channel, an ejector bar slidably disposed in the guide-way and provided at its lower end with an inturned lip having an ofiset end portion, the said inturned lip and offset end portion fitting in therecess of the In testimony whereof I afiix my signature bottom Wall and adapted to lift a match in presence of tWo Witnesses.
