TOY PISTOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PEDER T. PEDERsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Willow Lake, in the county of Clark and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Pistols; and I do hereby declare the fol.- lowing to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toy pistols for discharging peas, shot or pellets, by means of a spring; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the pistol, constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a front end view. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section through the barrel taken on the line m-m in Fig. 2, and showing the plunger retracted. Fig. 5 is a cross-section taken on the line g z in Fig. 2.
The barrel 2 of the pistol is formed on or secured to the front part of a frame 3. A suitable handle 4 pro ects downwardly from the rear end portion of the frame. The frame has a channel-shaped guide-bar 5 at its lower part and the front end port-ion of this bar extends under the barrel and has external grooves 6 in its sides where it oins onto the barrel.
Slots 7 are formed in the sides of the frame longitudinally of the barrel, and a longitudinal slot 8 is formed in the top of the frame. A recess 9 is formed in the lower part of the frame, and has a catch shoulder 10 at its front end where it joins onto the channel-shaped guide, and 11 is the trigger which is pivoted on a pin 12 and arranged to work in the recess 9. The trigger is a small bell-crank lever, and it has a rearwardly projecting member 14 at its upper art.
P A plunger 15 is slidable in the barrel 2, and has a guide block 16 on its rear end. This guide block has a catch shoulder 17 on its lower front edge, and when the plunger is retracted this shoulder engages with the shoulder 10.
A spring 18, formed of a band or strip of india rubber, is arranged in the grooves 6 at the sides of the barrel. The front end of the spring is secured in a notch 19 at the front end of the bar 5, and its rear end portion passes through the slots 7 and engages with a notch 20 in the rear end of the block 16, a little above the level of the grooves 6.
The plunger slides loosely in the barrel, and it and the block are made of such a length that they can be placed in position through the slot 8 before the spring is secured in place.
The upper part of the block 16 works in the slot 8, and forms a projection 21 for retracting the plunger. When the plunger is retracted by hand, the downward pull of the inclined portions of the spring causes the shoulder 17 to engage with the shoulder 10. When the trigger is pulled, the part 14 raises the guide block, and disengages the shoulders, and the pea or shot is discharged from the barrel by the plunger and spring.
What I claim is:
In a toy pistol, the combination, with a frame having a rectangular guide channel provided with longitudinal slots in its sides, said frame having a recess or slot extending vertically through it below the rear part of the guide channel, and having also a barrel at its front end; of a plunger slidable in the barrel and having at its rear end a me tangular block which is slidable in the said guide channel and adapted to engage with the upper part of the said recess, a spring band worklng in the said longitudinal slots and operating to propel the plunger and block, and a trigger pivoted in the said recess with its lower part projecting from the bottom end thereof and adapted torelease the said block.
