SAMUEL FLAXBAUM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LOOP FOR STRAPS 0F BAGS, 8w.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL FLAXBAUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York, State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Loops for Straps of Bags, &c., of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and efficient method of securing a loop to the strap handles of a bag or satchel without sewing or glueing. The loop is clamped by means of a metal plate to the straps thus forming a durable and inexpensive way of preventing displacement of the loop and consequent breakage of the straps. The metal plate is fastened to the strap by means of a staple, and the plate has winged members with the end portions of the loop lapped about the members to give rigid fastening to the loop. The loop is essentially adapted for covering and at the same time in connection with the staple and winged clamping plate, constitutes a durable and inexpensive device for uniting the end portions of a strap handle. A loop constructed in precisely the same manner can be applied to a belt, without the employment of tapes or similar methods of holding the loop in place.
The novel features of the invention are more fully described in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a bag embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical section of the loop. Fig. 3
is a horizontal section taken along the line w 00 Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a plate.
In this drawing the letter a designates a strap which as shown in the drawing is applied to a bag. A plate I) is fastened by means of a staple 0 to the lower portion of the strap. This plate 6 is provided with winged members (Z extending from adjacent sides of the plate. A leather loop a has its end portions lapped about the winged members and is thus gripped or securely fastened to the plate. .As indicated in Fig. 4 the plate has slits f to allow the shanks of the staple to pass through.
It will be seen that when the staple is in place the shanks thereof extend through the straps and are bent over the face of the plate Specification of Letters Patent.

thereby holding the plate and at the same time unitin the ends of the strap.
As state above the plate has winged members (Z and these members are bent toward each other from adjacent sides of the plate, while the end portions of the loop are located between the plate and the winged members; hence when the said members are pressed toward the plate they securely clench the loop in place. The loop when in place encircles the strap and by clenching it to a plate in the way shown it is prevented from sliding vertically on the strap. F urthermore the loop when fastened to the straps as shown, will prevent excessive movement of the strap when it is looped about the rings of the bag.
I claim:
1. A loop for the strap handles of bags comprising a plate secured to the strap, a loop adapted to encircle the strap, said plate having winged members for engagement with and for clamping the end portions of the loop.
2. A loop for strap handles of bags comprising a plate secured to the strap, a loop adapted to encircle the strap, said plate having winged members extending from adjacent sides of the plate for clamping and engagement with the end portions of the loop.
3. A loop for uniting the end portions of a strap handle for satchels comprising a plate arranged on the strap, a staple for fastening the plate to the strap, a loop adapted to encircle the strap, said plate having winged members extending from adjacent sides of the plate for clamping and securing the end portions of the loop between the members and the plate.
l. A loop for straps of bags and belts comprising a plate arranged on the strap, a staple for fastening the plate to the strap, a loop adapted to encircle the strap, said plate having winged members extending toward each other from adjacent sides of the plate with the end portions of the loop lapped about the members and thereby clamped.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL FLAXBAUM. lVitnesses CHRIS. H. ALMSTAEDT, HAZEL V. MoELRoY.
