' To all whomiz't may concern.'
groun Be it known that I, CHARLIE H. IVIBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at East McKeesport, in thezfc'ounty of Allegheny and State *of Penns lvaiiia;A ave in-x vented certain new and use ul Improvements in Burial-Gaskets; `and I do hereby declare thefollo'wingv to be afull, clear, and ,exactv description of the invention, such .as will enable others skilled in the art to ywhich it appertains to make and use the same.
- Myinvention'relates to new and useful improvements in burial cases' or caskets and ,more particularly to ,a casket made of cement, and the object ofthe invention is to `provide a `cement casket .with 'improved' means for securing the lid thereon and for securing the handles to the casket. f
With this object in View, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as w-ill be hereinafter referred to vand more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In' the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a per-- spective view of the complete casket. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof, and, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section thereof.
In carrying out my inventiomI shall refer to the drawings wherein similar reference characters designate correspondingA parts'throughout the several views and in which- 1 indicates the body of a cementl casket Vand 2 the lid therefor, which lid is 4adapted to be fitted upon said body and provided with an elongated .oponin 3 in the'top thereof. A window 4 is s idably mounted below the opening `3 in guides 5, lwhich guides are of'greater length than said openf/ 'I bottom ofthe casket, the bottoms of said inembers being secured to the bottom of the cement casket by means of bolts 7 A strip 8 fe'xtendi-rigl thel lengths of lthe sides and ends ofithegoasketf'adjacent the'upper por-'l tion thereof is engaged with the upper portions ofeachofsaid members .and assaid strip 8 is also secured t'o thev casket by means ef bolts, the upper portion of the frame- `work is seen to be securely mounted. A pair ofk strips 9 of substantially L-shaped design extend along the bottoms of the sides of said casket and are securely bolted to the sidof said'menibers 6 and are also engaged by the bolts 7 `which retain the mem# ybers 6 to the bottom of the casket, and a pair of transverse strips 10 also of L-shaped design are mounted on the ends of said strips 9 and extendl along the ends of said' casket.. As said strips 10 are also secured to the sidesv of the casket, it will be seen that the framework is held rigidly at the bottom thereof.
The upper ends of said members 6 are provided with inwardly extending fiang'es 11, which flanges are provided with threaded openings and as the lid. 2 is placed lon the body of the casket, screws12 carried by said lid are adapted 'to be engaged with said openings by the turning of the heads'l. As shown in the drawing, six of the screws three U.shaped members are shown, but any number of the members 6 and a correspond-n ing number ofscrews may be provided.
I have also provided means, etc., for securing .the handles in coperation with the means for securing the lid. The sides of the casketr are provided with a number of openings 14, as man as there are members 6, into which are a apted to be fitted the stems 15, which stems are integral with the members Gand provided with threaded sockets.
.12 are provided in view of theV fact that The plates 16 are provided with threaded stems 17 which are adapted to engage the threaded sockets of the ,stems 15 and any' a `f0rm of handle may be pivotally or likewise engaged with said plates 16, so that the casket may be lifted from place to place without chanceof the handles pulling away.
-The lframework within the casket, which will be rigidly held therein, may be covered with any material suitable Afor such purposes.
` What I claim isz- 1. A 'burial casket of the character 'described, provided With a metallic frameworkv on the nsidethereof, comprising U-shaped members secured to the side and bottom Walls, the fastenings for securing said mem. bers to the side Walls comprising stems integral with the vertical members extendin through the sidewalls ush vwith the outer surfaces thereof and having threaded sockets, and handles, comprising screws engaging in the threaded sockets, and plates integral With said screws bearing against the outer surface of said side Walls.`
2. A burial casket of the character described provided with an interior metal framework, comprising U-shaped transverse metal bars, the horizontal members thereof resting upon the bottom of the casket and bolted thereto, and the vertical members resting against and secured to the' side Wallss and interiorly extending flanges at the up per ends of the vertical member having vertical threaded openings to receive screws passed through' the lid.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
