CURBYCOMB AND, BRUSH.

.eppiea'tion filed May 23, 191i. Serial No. 628,990.
o citt 'ta/"icm may con itknown that l, l-loimon'h. Enosnnr, n oit 'the United States, residing at filent nana, in the county of, Bowie and @tate of Texas, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Currycombs and Brushes, of which the following is a specil'ication.
rlhis invention primarily relates to that class of grooming,- devices which comprises a curry-comb combined with a brush and mane com-b.
the vinvention resides ibin hinging the brush section to the curly-comb section and a novel means for locking the former sect-ion to the back of the latter section.
lli/'ith the above and other objects inv view, `this invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed,' and illustrated in the accompanyingl drawings, wherein-F Figure l is a side elevation disclosing,l the present invention; Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
rEhroughout the following detail description and on the several'iigures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference character,
la the drawings l designates the currycomb body, the saine comprisinga plurality of blades which may have their edges serrated or not, as desired. A handle 3 is secured to said curry-comb by two braces or members 4f. and e.
fr brush 5 is pivotally connected to the curry-comb body by hinges (i, the back of said brush carrying mane comb 7 which may be stamped or otherwise forn'ied from n'ietai and comprising a hollow body, as disclosed in Fig. l. The notches between the teeth are ol uniform depth with the exception of the central one 8 which is enlarged and deepened so as to receive the b ace or shank 4 when the brush body is swung ban-,kwardly upon the curry-comb l, as illustrated in dotted lines in ltig. l. When the brush is carried as illustrated in dotted lines in ifip. l, a pin or locking member S) is inserted through (he hollow body Vof the mane comb 7 which engages underneath the Specification of Letters Eatent.
raten-rmi may fr, i912.
shanlr Ll to securely lock said brush to the back of the curry-comb body. The arrangement of the brush or section 5 of thedevice is such that when itis folded back upon the curry comb l, space is economized for the purpose of shipping` the device and when it is placed away out of use. The mount-ing of the brush 5 so as to be folded upon the comb 1 is also advantageous in that said brush need not be used when the curry comb is employed, or by proper manipulation of the locking,` pin 9 the members l and 5 may be used simultaneously according to the desire of the operator.
The side of the brush o which is pivoted to the curry-comb l is provided with a pair of spaced ears lO which are apertured and adapted to receive the locking pin 9 when it is desired to use 'the groomingl device as disclosed in full lines in Fig. l.. It will be noticed from Fig. 3 that the locking pin engages the hinges 6 and thereby prevents any' movement of the brush 5. The pin or locking` member 9 may be curved to conform with the shape of the mane comb, or the former may be straight and of resilient inaterial; in the latter case the iiexibility will y facilitate the insertion of said pin into the' hollow body and, owing to the resiliency, the` former will produce suiiicient friction upon the latter to prevent accidental displace-- ment of said pin.
'.l-laving thus fully described my invention, what is claimed asnew is 5- l, In a grooming device of the class described, the combination of a curry comb having a handle projectingfrom one end thereof, a brush pivotally connected to the opposite end of the comb, the outer end of the brush being provided with a hollow transversely arranged mane comb, a brace coimecting,l the handleto the curry comb, and lockingr means including a pin adapted to enter the hollow portion of the mane comb and engage the brace of the handle so as to lock the brush folded on the backvof the curry comb in an inoperative position.
Q. d. grooming device comprising hinged sections, a. plurality of spaced ears larried by one of said sections, a locking pin slidably mounted on said ears and adapted to engage the other of said sections for retaining both sections of said grooming device in n tes-tmony whereof I ax my signature an operative posit-ion, and a mane comb con in presence of two Witnesses.
sisting' of a hollow body carried by one o the sections, said hollow body being adapted HORACE F 'ENDSLEY' 5 to receive a ocking pin for retaming the other section in an' ino Witnesses: peratlve posltlon, as herem specled.
