Specification of Letters Patent. Application man 1,1911. Serlal'li'o. 624,503.
Patented Apr. 30, 19.12.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, MYRON Moxnr, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Milford, in the county of Worcester" and State ofMassachusetts, have invented anew and useful Suspensi n for Cables, of which the followingis a specification- My invention relates to an improved way of suspending telephone or other cables, from a supporting cable commonly known The objects of my invention areto provide an easy we to put up and take down iii telephone or ot er cables of this nature, and to have same permanent and substantial, also to be able to use material for construction which has been in use, and to provide means in telephone line construction where an increase of service is expected by placin on guard wire or supporting cable a 'dou le ring construction, one ring of which (preferably the lower one) is used to carry the individual Wires as the service increases, and when it is decided to displace the individual wires b putting in a cable, it can be done by drawing the cable through the upper ring thus dispensing with t e present method of puttin up another guard wire to support cable, an then taking down the old line of individual wires. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a vertical view of the device showing rin loop for engaging cable, and catch for ho ding it closed. Fi 2 is a vertical view of device showing ow loop is made wider than lower part, thus making it more rigid while cable is being drawn through. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of device open with section of cable in loop showing manner of its application, also shows how catch M, is made by punching and turning in at right angles. Fig. 4 is a section along the line A.-B. showing the thickness of metal and crowning it on inner surface to stiffen, and to make better surface for cable to slide over.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views. In Fig. 3 the opening in loop is made of such a size as to slip over cable N Fig. 3, when open as shown in drawing, and when closed as in Fig. 1 the sides of loop are pressed against cable holding it in a rigid position the top of loop being cut away as shown in F igs'. 2-3 at p, which, weakening this same device can be used by metal as to allow it to hinge more easily, thus causing more pressure on the insides of the loop to hold the device in a rigid position on guard wire N. Fig. 3. v
It is understood that upper part of loop could be *made to hinge like door hinges also by thinning down upper part ofloop instead of punching out a piece as shown in, Figs. 2-3 at p, but they form no part of this specification. The crowning of inner surface of ring the top and giving such a distribution of to make ring stifl' should be carried up the edge of loop to a point about a: Fig. 1.
Catches M Fig. 3 are made by punchin and turning in, and should be laced in sue a position relatively to slot H i'g. 3 so that when engaged and locked they will hold 1 ring together as shown by Fig. 1. The side of ring with catch M, Fig. 3 should be so shaped that when open catch M will be slightly abovetslot H so that when lockedsition. 1
It is understood that where there is use in line construction for only the single. rin
cutting 0% the spring pressure will hold it firmly i'n'p'oon dotted line: C-D,'Fig. 1.
It is also understood t at the double ring construction also single ring can be used to apply wood sheathin where same is deemed.
necessary for insulation. Where the strains v of line construction are not too severe this device may be made of uniform width). as shown by dotted lines Fig. '2 thus lessening cost of inairufacturi Having now desci i ed my invention what I claim and desire to secureby Letters Patent -is' acter described, comprising a single piece, a laterally formed supporting wire engag-- ing loop intermediate. its free ends, two semi-circular cable engaging loops 'with inner surfaces -crowned OIL each half, intermediate supporting Wire engaging loop and free ends, and portions of said single piece connecting cable engaging loops and at free ends containing locking devices substantially as set forth.
2. In a suspension for cables of the character described comprising a'single piece, a
laterally formed supporting wir'e engaging loop intermediate its free ends, two semicircular cable engaging loops with inner surfaces crowned on each half intermediate 95 1. In a suspension for cables of the char component part an supporting Wire engaging loop and free ends, portions of said single piece connecting cable engaging loops and at free ends containing ocking devices, said locking devices donsisting of lugs perpendicular to inner surface of said connecting portion, and at free end, said lugs containing notches,
'said notches engagin slots in corresponding component parts to old inoperative posltion.
, I 3.111 a suspension for'c'ables' ,.of the charner surface of said connecting portion and at free end, said lugs containlng notches, said notches engagin slots in corresponding means for increasing the flexibility of supporting wire engaging loop by a lateral centrally located slot in supporting wire engaging loop substantially and for the purpose described.
4. In a suspension for cables of the character described, comprisinga single piece with one semicircular cable engaging loop with inner surface crowned intermediate its center and free ends on each half, lips containing locking devices at free ends, said 1 locking device consisting of a lug perpendicular to inner surface of said lips on one half, said lug containing notch, said notch engaging slot in lip of corresponding component part at free end, a laterally formed supporting wire engaging loop connecting members containing cable engaging loops and lips containing locking devices at free ends, and means for increasing the flexibility of said supporting wire engaging loop by a lateri ally centrally located slot in supporting wire loop, substantially as described.
