JULIUS SANDT, OF PIRMASENS, GERMANY.
PRESS PROVIDED WITH AN OSCILLATING PRESSING-ARM.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ULIUS SANDT, of Pirmasens, Germany, subject of the King of Bavaria, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Presses Provided with Oscillating Pressing-Arms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being mace to the accompanying drawings, which are to be taken as part of this specification and read therewith, and one which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to presses provided with an oscillating pressing arm and consists in a device whereby the mechanism which operates the pressing arm is automatically coupled up on swinging the pressing member over the table. In the known presses of this type, a hand or foot lever was provided on the pressing arm, in addition to the crank serving for the oscillation thereof, by means of which the power mechanism for the pressing arm was coupled up after the latter had been swung over and adjusted above the table.
According to the invention the special operation of a coupling lever is dispensed with by the use of a device by means of which the pressing arm on being swung over the table puts the mechanism automatically into operation, so that it is no longer necessary for the workman to perform a hand or foot movement for this purpose.
A constructional form is shown in the accompanying drawing as employed on upper leather dies.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a press illustrating the application of my invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation. Fig. 4: is a plan on an enlarged scale of the device for coupling up the power mechanism.
The pressing arm n, which is oscillated by a rigid handle 0 is mounted above the table m in such manner that it can be lowered to ward the table m for the purpose of bringing the knives into operation. The pressing arm carries a plate a which is rigidly secured in position by a screw 29 and which by means of holes 1 and a pin f provided on the pressing arm n can be adjusted at any angle in relation to the pressing arm. On the rear end of the plate a is provided a curved inclined plane 6 on which a roller 0 is adapted to run.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 11, 1911.
Patented Apr. 23, 1&1
Serial "No. 554,139.
The latte]; is mounted on a shaft which projects above the path of the inclined plane and is rigidly secured to a connecting rod 0 which effects the coupling of the power mechanism in any suitable manner. The rod r is, by means of a pivotally mounted power lever or link 8, suspended from a rod 6 which can be adjusted in a guide a provided on the machine frame, if the pressing arm is to be adjusted at various heights above the table m.
W hen the pressing arm n oscillates above the table m the roller 0 runs upward on the inclined plane Z) and takes with it the connecting rod 1* which couples the power mechanism. It will be seen that the lever s and, if desired, the rod r, constitute power controlling means whereby the arm 12 may be connected or disconnected for operating purposes. The adjustment can naturally also be effected in any other suitable manner.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be per- Formed, I declare that what I claim is l. A. press comprising in combination, a swinging press arm, a cam pivotally mounted on said arm, means for locking said cam in its adjusted position, and a pivotally mounted power lever having a roller adapted for actuation by said cam upon swinging movincnt of said arm, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A press comprising in combination, a swinging press arm, a cam pivotally mounted on said arm, means for locking said cam in its adjusted position, and an adjustably mounted pivotal power controlling lever adapted for actuation by said cam upon swinging movement of said arm, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. A press con'iprising in combination, a swinging press arm, a cam mounted on said arm, and a power controlling means disposed in the field of movement of said cam, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
nesses.
