Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 101,638, dated April 5, 1870; antedated March 24, 1870.
I, CHARLES J. MoALIsTER, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Manufactured Flooring, of which the following is a specification:

Figure 1 is a plan of the ooring. Fig. 2 is a section along the line .fr x.
General Description.
The letters A represent the large squares,
or abacnln, composed of a number of small blocks B, glued to stout canvas C. The border pieces D are made in an elongated shape as a parallelogram for the sake of greater convenience in laying. These squares A or border pieces D may be made to t any oor by cutting along the joints and separating the blocks. All the preparation and foundation required to lay this ooring is an ordinary plank or board door, free from any great inequality of surface. be made from the ordinary refuse of a cabinetfactory', pieces too small to use for any other purpose.

I claim as my invention- The manufactured square A, consisting of small blocks of various colored woods glued in a pattern upon stout canvas C, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth. CHARLES J. MCALISTER.
