my improved form of spzii'h indioofiior which comprises an eie: terminai' 7, one end of which terminaies in a semi-oyiindric211 yoke 8 having inroads 9 upon its inner surface ii'hioh threads are adapted to engage the threads on the ping 47-. The end of the feminine 1? opposite the yoke is screwihi'eaded, as shown oi: 1 which threaded portion carries a not 1.1! and a binding nut 12, between which held ineieiiio enci oi the iend 14 oi? the economy circuit. ierinediefe the not 11 and the yoke 8 is an insulating sleeve 15 enoirciing the terminal 7 and hoving the end facing the poke i owed out to form a recess 16. Positioned W thin this recess 16 is coil spring17 one end oi which bears upon the sleeve 15 moi the other end of which hours upon he yoke 8., thereby tending to form :1 tension between these members for 'e purpose heieinzifioi' ciescI-i'oeci.
Enclosing two opposite i 1 of the sleeve 15 is e suhetanai i; {gown-shaped frame "18 having a closed enrved outer end 1% From the curved. portion 1'9 the frame extends outward, Withits two parallel sides 20 embracing the sleeve 1.5, and liming two oppositeiymiispoeed interned ends 21 embracing the outer end of said sleeve. Positioned between the ends of the sleeve 15 enii frame 18 and the nut 11 on the term -i,
some distance toward iihe ping surrounds :1 partof the side of. the frame 18. It will be seen that this on}; 22 affords e means for grasping the terminal 1121GT, at the some time insulates the terminal from. the hanri and affords a carrying means for the frame and er .iinai.
i will be seen that in order to piece the ndioaioion the spark plug, it is merely necessary to hook the end 19 of the frame over the end the 2;. iongituriiimliy away from the plug; an opening will he formed heiween the inner sieie of the end 19 and the yoke 8 into which plug may be inserted ing the hold on the cap 22,
the spring 1? will this sorei'v-threedeci portion may be pinned a hollow cap 22 which eiziieniie forwerri Then by releas plug, and by pulling the cap Iorce the yoke 8 into engagementwith the v plug, thereby firmly holding the indicator in place.
Should it be desired to determine whether there is sufficient current in the secondary to generate a spark, the cap 22' is drawn in the direction away from the plug, which action will form a spark gap between the threads 6 on the plug 4 and the threads 10 on the yoke 8, thereby affording a ready, quick and accurate means for determining the condition of a current in the secondary. As this entire device is outside of the combustion chamber, said chamber is in no way interfered with during the testing of the sparking circuit, nor is it necessary in any way to interfere with, change or break the secondary circuit.
Many changes could bemade in the above constructirm and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could 'be made without departing from the scope thereof. It is intended that all matters contained herein in the above description, or shown in the accompanying drawings, 'shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. It is also to be understood that the language used in the following claims is merely intended to cover all the generic and specific features of the invention herein described and all statements of the scope of the invention, which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween, and that materials, sizes and relativities of parts are non-essential, except as called for in, the claims.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a spark indicator, comprising an electric terminal having a yoke end adapted to engage one side of a combustion engine spark plug, an insulating cap surrounding said terminal adjacent the yoke end aframe positioned within said cap and inclosing and spaced apart from said yoke end, a sleeve insulating said terminal from said end, and a spring within said sleeve bearing on the same and on the yoke end forcing said yoke and frame together, to hold the spark plug between the same.
2. In a spark indicator, a hollow sleeve, a frame having a closed curved outer end, the inner end of which engages said sleeve, a terminal projecting through said sleeve and having a yoke coacting with the curved end of the frame to hold a spark plug therebetween, a spring in said sleeve maintaining said yoke and frame resiliently in contact with the plug, and means insulated. from said frame, by means of which said yoke may bewithdrawn from said plug, to form a spark space between said yoke and plug.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
