Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed May 24, 1910. Serial No. 563,122.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MINOSAKU TAKAI-IASI-II, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Harlowton, in the county of Meagher, State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vessel- Closures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a receptacle closure and more particularly to the class of closures for bottles, jars or the like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a closure in which the mouth portion of a receptacle may be tightly closed so as to prevent leakage of the contents of the receptacle should it become upset or accidentally overturned.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a closure of this character in which the sealing cap thereof can be readily detached at will so that it may be replaced when required and which cap will serve to tightly close the mouth of the receptacle to prevent leakage of its contents should the receptacle become overturned. A further object of the invention is the provision of a closure which is capable of being mounted upon bottle necks or the body of other receptacles of varying sizes and which closure may be readily removed at will so that it may be cleaned to maintain the same sanitary.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a closure of the character described possessing advantages in points of simplicity security and convenience.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings disclosing the'preferred form of embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bottle with the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4: is a detailed perspective View of the securing member for embracing the bottle neck. Fig. 5 is a detailed perspective view of the bail member for supporting the closiire cap.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 6 designates a bottle having at its mouth portion an outer peripheral flange 7, the bottle being of the ordinary well-known form. Fitted over the mouth portion of the bottle 6 is a cap 8 the same being in the form of an inverted cup shaped body adapted to receive a portion of the flange 7 when the said-cap is tightly fitted upon the bottle.
I Secured transversely on the outer face of the cap 8 are a series of strap loops forming alining eyes 9 in which is detachably engaged a bail member 10 the same being bent near one end to form a spring coil or con.- volution 11 and adjacent this coil the said bail member 10 is further bent to form an eye terminal 12 the same engaging a central bight 13 formed in a split ring member 14 the latter being preferably formed from a single strand of wire bent to embrace the neck portion of the bottle 6 for the mouth of the bail member 10 thereon, one end of the ring member 14: being bent to form a hook terminal 15 and the other end being bent to from a vertical shank 16 rising a slight distance above the plane of the ring member 14 and terminates in an outwardly bent hook bill 17 the latter adapted to engage with the free end of the bail member 10 and securing the cap upon the bottle. The hook terminal 15 is adapted to engage the shank 16 to detachably secure the ring member 14 about the bottle neck.
It will be apparent that when the bail member 10 is engaged with the hook bill 17 on the ring member 14: embracing the bottle 6 the coil 11 will exert an upward tension on the bail member 10 thus maintaining it in locked engagement with the hook bill 17 so as to obviate possibility of accidental disengagement of the bail from the said bill 17. Furthermore due to the disposition of the coil 11 and the hook bill 17 the cap will be held so as to prevent the discharge or leakage of the contents of the bottle.
