To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANZISKA HERMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Helena, in the county of Lewis and Clark and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Trimming Stands, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in a stand to be used by milliners for holding the hats while being trimmed.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a stand of this character which is simple in construction and which is convenient in use, the same being readily adjustable for different sized crowns.

Another object is to provide a novel means for adjusting the holder, and holding the same in its adjustment.

These and other objects will be apparent from the following description and with particular reference to the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a view at right angles to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional detail of the adjusting means.

Referring to the drawings, 10 represents a table, on which is secured a block 11 hav ing a vertical standard 12 projecting there from, and on the upper end of the standard is secured a plate 13. The standard 12 has a longitudinal bore let extending part way through the same from the upper end, in which is arranged to slide vertically an adjusting rod 15 to be later described. Rotatably mounted on the standard 14 above the plate 13 is a band or ring 16, and secured thereto in any suitable manner as by the clips 17, are the radially arranged wires 18. Arranged concentrically with the band 16 and adjacent the outer edge of the disk or plate 13 is a wire ring 19, around which each of the wires 18 is given a single turn as at 20 from whence they extend upwardly, their ends being secured to a flat band 21, the ends of said ring 19 being twisted and extending laterally to form a handle 22, by means of which the rings 16 and 19 may be rotated and carry the vertical portion 18 with them. Secured to the upper portion of the band 21 and extending inwardly and secured at their opposlte'ends to ahead 23 on the upper end of the rod 15 are the wires 24:- Cut into the rod 15 and below the surface thereof is a series of ratchet teeth 25.

The inner end of one of the radial wires 18 is given a single turn outwardly as at 26 and has its end turned inwardly and pointed as at 27, and is adapted to engage with the teeth 23, a suflicient amount of resiliency being in the wireabove the clip 17 so that the point 27 will normally be in engagement with the teeth. The resiliency of the members 24 and 18 are such that they have normal tendency to draw the rod 15 into its uppermost position, but said'rod is held from such movement by the pointed end 27. To release the point the loop or turn 26 is grasped in the fingers and pulled outwardly. By means of this adjustment the diameter of the wire frame may be increased or de creased to tightly grip the inside of the crown of the hat, and hold the same firmly so that it may be conveniently trimmed. By means of the handle 22 the frame may be rotated on the plate 13 to turn the hat into different positions.

A hat trimming stand comprising a support, a standard on the'support, said standard having a longitudinal bore in one end, a vertically sliding rod in the bore. a plate on the upper end of the standard, a hat holding frame disposed on the plate, said frame comprising a ring, radially extending wires connected to the ring, a larger ring concentrically arranged with relation to the first named ring. said radial wires being engaged with said larger ring, a band disposed above said larger ring. the ends of said wires being secured to said band, wires connected to the band and one end of said rod, ratchet teeth formed on the rod, and the inner end of one of said radial wires being turned and having its end pointed and adapted to engage said ratchet teeth, whereby said rod is adapted to be held in different vertical adjusted positions to regulate the size of the said frame.
