Description

` luitcd Statica .etwt @twine Lezen Patent No.' 101,359, amd Marchas, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT WATER-CLOSET VALVES.
The vSchedule referred to in these Lettera Patnt and making part cf the same.
To all whom it may concer-n:
same; and consists of a device automatic iu its operation and that is not liable -to easily get ont of repair,
and by which an eli'ective cleansir'lgr of the-basin of deposit is had with an economical use of water.
Referring to the drawings- Figure l is a front elevation of such parts of awater-closet' as are necessary to show the nature of my invention. v v vFigure 2 is 'a transverse section of the faucet or valve.
Figure 3 is a sectional view'of the tank or reservoir. Figure 4 is a sectional view of a device bywhich the plug of the faucet is prevented from sticking.
A represents the seat of the closet upon which the operator sits. This seat is provided with the usual perforations, (not shown in the drawings,) and beneath it is fixed, to the flanie or casing B, the pan of deposit, provided'with a trap in any improved man- The seat A is hinged at the back, and is prevented from opening to a greater extent than desired by means of the screw and eye-bolt shown at f.
D is the plug or valve, the axis of which is horizoutal, and p E, the casing forming the faucet.
The apparatus is supplied with water by a pipe con'- nected to the faucet by means of the female screwa.
The reservoir, fig. 3, is air and water-tight, and is to be secured in some convenient position at a suitaf ble height above the seat. This reservoir is provided with an air-valve, consisting of a float, d, and stem s and casing g, and is connected with the faucet by means Vof a pipe and the female screws b b'.
The water is conveyed to the basin of deposit\by means of a pipe connected to the faucet at c.
h is an oil-cup for lubricating the plug -D, and connects,A by'means ofthe passage p, with the recess lr.
From the seat A depends a strong arm, o, to which is riveted the end of the strap s. f The strap s passes from the end of the arm o over the circumference of the head of the plug D to the weight rw, and back to a pin, x, in the plug or valve.
- .At the rear end of the valve is a screw, F, Iwhich operates against the plug and keeps it in place, and prevents binding or sticking in the seat.
The operation of this apparatus is as follows:
When the person takes a position on the seat A the action causes the weight w torise, and motion is communicatedv to theplug D by means of the strap s,
and the plug D is carried into the position shown in iig. 2, and the water enters at c and `rushes through b and fills the reservoir, fig. 3, closing the float-valves p When the weight is removed from the seatA Ithe weight lw will descend, causing the seat A and valve D to resume their original positions, and thus cutting' olf the communication between t and b, and'openingf the communication between b and c, allowing the water from the tank, fig. 3, to r'un into and through the basin of deposit, and in this position the apparatus will remain until the next'operatorcomes along.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire `to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the faucet D E, provided with the regulating-screw F, with the straps s and weight w, when arranged and operated as described, for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with the abcve, an airtigl'it reservoir, having the float-valves s d g and stopI f, as described, for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
O. T. FORREST. [11. s.] Witnesses:
O. W. M. SMITH, E. S. TIBBEY.
