Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1911.
Application filed July 8, 1911. Serial No. 637,424.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW PEoHY, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed- Bags, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to feed bags, and the objects are to furnish a feed bag or receptacle with a novel closure for retaining feed within the bag when the bag is not in use, and to provide a feed bag that is sanitary and easy to place upon a horses head, whereby the feed within the bag can be easily obtained.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the feed bag in an open position, Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the bag in a 010 ed position, and Fig. 41 is a side elevation of the same.
A bag in accordance with this invention comprises a frustoconical shaped receptacle 1, preferably made of fabric or other flexible material, the receptacle having the upper and lower edges thereof provided with rings 2 and 3, to which the upper and lower edges of the side walls of the receptacle are at tached. The ring 3 has diametrically disposed and outwardly projecting pins 4:, and pivotally mounted upon said pins are the eyes 5 of semicircular cover frames 6 and 7 said frames being independent of one another in their movement, with the frame 6 larger than the frame 7 whereby it can be swung over said frame to close the bag. The frame 6 is connected to one side of the ring 3 by a shield 8 that is constructed upon the principle of a bellows, said shield being collapsible when the frame 6 is in an open position. The frame 7 is connected by a shield 9 to the opposite edge of the ring 3, and said shield has openings or perforations whereby the interior of the receptacle will be ventilated when in use.
Suitably attached to the frame 6 is a strap 12 adapted to be detachably connected to a button 13, carried by the outer side of the receptacle to retain the bellows shield 8 in an extended position over the shield 9.
Connected to the diametrically opposed sides of the frames. 6 and 7 are coiled springs 14, having the ends thereof connected to links 15, which are detachably connected to snap hooks 16, carried by the ends of a head strap 17 This arrangement positions the frames 6 and 7 resiliently against the head of the horse when the bag is in'use so as to prevent the accidental spilling of the contents of the receptacle, the same being accomplished'by the normal partially closed positions of the guards 8 and 9.
The head strap 17 is detached when the receptacle is to be closed, as shown in Fig. 4, and the strap can be connected to the frame 6 whereby it will not become accidentally displaced.
When a driver leaves the stable of a morning, sufiicient food can be placed directly in the receptacle whereby it will be unnecessary to carry a separate sack or receptacle for the food. The feed bag containing the food .can be suspended beneath the vehicle ready for instant use.
What I claim is 1. The feed bag comprising a receptacle having a top ring, cover frames pivotally connected to said ring, shields connecting said ring and said frames, a strap carried by one of said frames and adapted to be attached to the outer wall of said receptacle, coiled springs connected to said frames, and a head strap having the ends thereof detachably connected to said springs.
2. A feed bag comprising a receptacle, 2. top ring carried thereby, frames pivotally connected to said ring, a perforated shield tachable supporting means secured to said connecting one of said frames to said ring, connecting means. 10 a bellows shield connecting the other frame In testimony whereof I aflix my signature to said ring and adapted to be swung over in the presence of two witnesses.
