ACCOUNT-BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 31, 1911.
Application filed March 27, 1911. Serial No. 617,085.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, SOLOMON FRED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Warren and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Account-Books, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in account-books and primarily of loose leaf form.
The object of my invention is to provide an account-book of a series of loose duplicate leaves, with each leaf and its duplicate having an identifying. stub coincidentally projected from the leaf, with the same index symbol differentially displayed, whereby, when the original is removed the same is readily indicated by the identifying duplicate.
Another object of my invention is to provide an account-book, comprising a series of loose leaves, with each leaf having a duplicate thereof detachably connected therewith and each leaf and its duplicate having an identifying stub, adapted to coincidentally project when the leaf and duplicate are folded, but in which the stubs of original and duplicate are of distinct identifying nature, so as to readily indicate the removal of one of them, and with the stubs of the leaves of each series of the book projected staggeredly, relative to each other, to individually display in the whole as a series the index symbol of each original leaf or its duplicate.
The features of this invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my accountbook, comprising a series of loose leaves and duplicates of each leaf. Fig. 2 is a View of one of the leaves and its duplicate with the edges of the original upturned to display the duplicate, with each having the same index symbol but differentially displayed. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the upper portion of the leaf, showing the forward face of the original and the rear of the duplicate, with the medial scored line for severance.
The account-book, as illustrated, is primarily of loose leaf form, adapted to be supported within a case, so asto have the advantages common in the card filing system, with each leaf removable. The ruling of each leaf may be of any desired form, but
the book in one of its uses is ruled and adapted to serve as an index for the ordinary sales slip made at the time of each purchase, in which several copies are made, in which one is kept by the purchaser and the second by the dealer. Each customer is given a num her on a charge account, or otherwise, and the number of sales slips and total amount of purchase, credit or debit, entered upon a leaf of my account-book and duplicate thereof. Each leaf will indicate the account number, date of each purchase or payment, number of sales slip, serving as an index for the sales slip as an itemized entry, and in which the original leaf can be separated from the duplicate, and mailed as a statement of account and which will immediately show in the book that the same has been sent, and whether or not the account has been paid, for as soon as an account is closed, the leaf is withdrawn from the book. This leaves the book complete, with only open accounts, with the removed leaves filed with the sales slips. Various other schemes can be carried out as a record and index with my account book, without departing from the features of my invention.
1 represents a sheet of my account-book, having the scored line 2 to separate the leaves. Each sheet is provided with an original 3, and duplicate 4, adapted to register when folded, as shown in Fig. 2.
5 represents a sheet of carbonpaper inserted between the leaves 3, 4, for record on the duplicate leaf 4, simultaneously with the entry on the original 3.
6, 7, represent stubs projecting from each leaf 3, 4, respectively, adapted to coincide with each other when the sheet is folded. Each stub has an index symbol or character printed thereon of the same value, but differentially displayed so as to readily distinguish one leaf from the other, the original from the duplicate. The stubs of each sheet of the whole as a series are projected staggeredly relative to each other, as shown in Fig. 1, in order that each leaf or duplicate thereof, when the orginial is removed, has an identifying character or portion thereof displayedin book form, serving as a guide in locating each account or sheet.
From Fig. 1, it can be seen at a glance that the leaf 7 of the book is the duplicate leaf, and that the original thereof has been removed, owing to the differential display of the index or identifying symbol or character, and showing that the originals of the remainder of sheets of the book are still intact. This forms quite an advantage, in that the originals can be used as a statement of account, to be mailed to the customer, saving the time and insuring accuracy over the methods now employed of recopying statements of account from. a journal or ledger, and at the same time it indicates that such statement has been sent and remains unpaid.
Having described claim 1. An account-book, comprising a series of loose duplicate leaves, each leaf and its duplicate having an identifying stub co incidentally projected from the leaf, and having the same index symbol differentially displayed, the index stub of the original copy leaves being-serially exposed when the leaves are compiled, whereby the removal of an original leaf is indicated by the relative character of the identifying index symbol of its remaining counterpart exposed by the removal.
my invention, I
2. An account-book, comprising a series of loose duplicate leaves, each leaf and its duplicate having an identifying stub coincidentally projected from the leaf and of differential display, to indicate the removal of the original, With the coincident stubs of such set of duplicate leaves projected staggeredly, relative to the remainder of those of the series to display a portion of each stub of the set of leaves.
3. An account-book, comprising a series of loose duplicate leaves, each leaf and its duplicate having an identifying stub coincidentally projected from the leaves and of coincident indexing character with differential display, whereby the removal of one is indicated by the relative display of stub identification.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
SOLOMON FRED.
