Description

G. MAN.
SLIDING 00 F NER.
APPLICATION FILED Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
GILSON HOMAN, OF PASSAIC, NEW JERSEY.
' SLIDING-DOOR FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 14, 1911.
Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
Serial No. 633,046.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GILsON I-IOMAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Sliding-Door Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in door fasteners and the object of my invention is to provide a simple, convenient and effective device for fastening sliding doors of freight cars and the like. I accomplish this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a view of the device with adjacent parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a view of the socket member. Fig. 3 is a view of the engaging member and door.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Upon the edge of a door 1, I secure a plate 2 by means of screws or bolts 3 3 inserted through the ears 4 4. Upon the face of the plate 2 I attach the sliding plate 5 by means of a pin 6 set in the plate 2 and having an enlarged head 7 This pin 6 rests in the curved seat 8 in the plate 5 and is slidable therein. The plate 5 is also provided with a hook section 9.
In the face of the car body adjacent the doorway thereof I insert the socket member 10 provided with a marginal lip 11 and an engaging cross bar 12 and which is preferably secured in position by means of screws 13, 13 inserted through the marginal lip 11.
Upon the plate 2 and plate 5 respectively, I provide projections 14 and 15 each having apertures which register when the plate 5 is in its raised or locked position and a pin 16 may then be inserted therethrough and secured by a seal 17 or in any other desired manner. The plate 5 will normally lie in the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. l, with the pin 6 at the upper end of the seat 8. In this position the door 1 may be moved freely.
When it is desired to lock the door 1, it is moved over until the plate 5 is opposite the opening in the face of the socket member 10, when the plate 5 is moved upwardly on the pin 6 to the position shown by the solid lines in Fig. 1, and, by reason of the curved pin seat 8, the plate 5 is directed into the socket member 10 and the hook section 9 will engage the cross bar 12. In this position the apertures in the projection 4 on the plate 2 and in the projection 15 on the plate 5 will register as above described, when they may be secured by means of a pin16.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is- In a device of the character described, a
door, a plate provided with a curved slot.
