BLADE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application tiled February 16, 1911.
Patented Sept. 19,1911. serial No. 608,926.
To all whom it may concern:
`Be it known that I, PAUL R. Buoniionz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chattanooga, lin the county of Hamilton and State of 'l`ennessee, have invented a new and Improved Blade-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates generally `to a blade holder, and more particularly to a holding device for flexible blades such as are. used in safety razors.
An object. of my invention is lo provide a simple device, whieh is: preferably of integral formation, which will securely hold a flexible blade in position for shaving or streppi ng. I
Another object -of the invention is to proxidc i simple device i'oiholding a flexible blade in position for cutting or stropping, which will be of simple construction, of pleasing appearance, and of a low cost of production.
Reference is to he had to the accompanying drawings, forniing a part of thisl specitcation, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views and in which- Figure -.1 is a perspective view of my device with a thin blade in position for use; Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof, on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
The deviceconsists preferably of a single lpiece of material having n. handle portion l, at. oneend thereof, and a blade holding portion 2, at the opposite end, with a narrowed portion 3, at an intermediate position in order to rovide a simple 'and effective handle. he blade holding portion 2, has a slot 4, extend-ing transversely thereof, in which the flexible blade 5, is adapted to be laced. Each side of the portion 2, 's pre erably beveled, as at 6 and 7, at. substantially the same angle as the cutting edge portion 8, of the blade, whereby the` holder with the blade therein may be convenientlyfstropped at the proper angle.
Referring particularly to Fig. 2, it will be noted that' the slot 4, is transversely curved; the `centraly portion 'of this slot lies Ain a different horizontal vplane than the end portions thereof, whereby when a thin bladeis 'nscrted in the slot it will be trans-` versely eyed, as shown in lthis figure. The rwidth of,tlie slot 4, is sufficient. toreceive the bodyflportion of the blade 5, and, 4due to the. peculiar conformation dit'. this slot, the blade will be securely held in position therein, with the cutting edge 8, at variable distances from the end 9, of the holder.r
During the stropping operation. the pressure on the blade is at au angle lo tlu` en ttuig edge thereof, which will tend to flex Athereby swinging the blade outwardly 'about the corner 11 thereof as a pivot'.
My device need not necessarily be lnadc in one piece, nor need it be made of any particular material, nor need it be of the particular formation shown.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent 1. A holder for flexible razor blades coinprising a handle portion and a blade holding portion, the blade holding portion being provided willi a slot extending for a suitable distance therein, the width of the said slot being uniform throughout its length, the end portions ot' either side wall of the said slot lying in substantially the Sallie plane and the intermediate portions of either side wall lying in a substantially different plane, whereby when a flexible blade is inserted into the said slot in flexed condition, it will 'be held in position therein.
2. A holder for razor blades made up of a handle portion and a blade holding portion, the sides of the liladeholding portion being beveled whereby they tend to approach each other, a slot contained in the said plate .holding portion and at the narrowest end thereof, the .said slot being transversely curved whereby, when a flexible blade is inserted linto the said slot in flexed condition, the blade. will be held therein by reason of its tendency 'to return to an.' untlexed condition, the beveled sides.
of the said holde'r oeiiig convenient support for the holder when the blade therein is drain otfer the strop whereby the edge may be s arpe'ned at. the proper angle.
3. A holder for Hexible razor blndes,c0m prising u handle portion and :L blade-holding portion, the blade-holding portion being provided with n slot extending for a Suitable distance therein, the end portions of the Suid slot lying in substantially the sume horizontal plane and the intermediate portion of the slot lying in n ,Substantially different plane, whereby when a fiexible lilzulo is insel-Ml into (llo Suid slot in iiexed condition it \\ill be llelil in position therein.
4. A liolller for razor blades mmle up of :L lmmlle portion :unl :i hlzulwholrling portion, :1. lSlot in the lilanle-liohling portion,
adjacent one Side thereof, the said slot being transversely curved, whereby when n Hexible blade is inserted into the slot in a, iiexed conditiln the blade will be ositioned therein, ly reason of the frictlonnl engagement bet een the side walls 0i the slot and the opposite sides of the blade.
In testimony whereof I have signed my nume to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
