CENTER-PUNCH GAGE.
To all un'mm it may concern:
Be it; known that: l, Axnnew D. Gonorrsona, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of L oneinaugl'n in the county of tlainliiria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvemerits in Center-iiiuich Gages, of which the t'ollowing is a full and clear specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a ')erspe'ctive "iew of my improved device showing it placed on a plate as in actual use; and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse Pection thereof.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple implement for accurately punchiuq'. center holes in 'n'ietal t'or drilling as more tully hereinafter set forth.
The device consists of a pair of support-- ing blocks a rigidly connected by a pair of separated parallel bars 7) one or both of which on their upper surfaces are provided with marks indicating a linar measure. (1, the measure or scale beginning at a point coincident with the inner face of one of the hloclis (I and terminating preferably co-ineidcnt with the inner face cl: the.oth.erhloclc. Hlidahly mounted on the liars I) is an interuu-diate leg or support 1], the upright men! her 1: ol this leg being provided on each ol its side edges with a pair of lugs which embraces one of the hars I), thus holding this supplemental leg slidahly on the frame. .letwecn this supplemental leg 7) and the l g 0, at the Zero end ol the scale slidahly zuountml in any suitahle manner a punch which is supported in a vertical positionand which when struck liy a han'uuer will he caused to punch a hole in the piece of work supported below it. At the back edge of Specification of Letters 2mm.

the derice, on the rear one of the bars 7) is mounted a level h, of any suitable construction. 7
One way of using the device is shown in Fig. 1, in which the leg (Z is adjusted to a point nine inches from the zero end of the scale or measure and the punch is adjusted to a point hall way hctween, suitable scale marks 2' being provided on the punch supporting block to assist: in locating the punch at the proper point on the scale. \Vhcn the parts are thus adjusted they are in position to punch the l'iolesexactly midway between the points nine inches apart; on the work plate and by the use of the level the punch can he always i'i'laintained in an exactly verti 'al position with respect to the worl; plate so thatthe punched holes will be exactly perpendicular to the face of the plate and thus properly direct the tool in drilling out the holes.
Having thus described my invention, what; I claim as he i and desire to secure by Letters latent, is-
In a device of the class set forth, the combination of a slide-way provided at each end with a rigid sumaorting block and on its upper face with a linear scale extending from one block toward the other hloclg a supplemental leg or marker slidahly mounted on the slide-way, and a punching device slidahly mounted on the slide-way between said slidahle leg and the zero end of the scale.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature in the presence ot two witnesses.
