ERICK KARVAKKO, OF REDRIDGE, MICHIGAN.
LAMP-WICK-TRIIV IMING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Enron KnRvAKKo, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Redridge, county of Houghton, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in LamplVick-Trimmmg Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lamp wick trimming or snufling devices and has for its object the production of a device of this character which will be of durable and economical construction and efficient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in a wick trimming device characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in whichv Figure 1 is a top plan view of a conventional form of lamp burner to which is applied a wick trimming device embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation thereof.
Referring now to the drawing I have illustrated therein a lamp burner of conventional form comprising the body part 1, the head 2, the wick3 being arranged in the latter and mounted in the usual wick tube 4.
5 designates the usual manually operable wick adjusting stem which is mounted and connected in the ordinary manner.
Rigidly secured, preferably by means of rivets 6 to the peripheralportion or flange 7 at the base of the body 1 is an outwardly projecting ear 8. Arranged upon the upper side of the ear 8 is a transversely extending bar 9 having an eye 9 formed medially therein, the extremities of said bar being rigidly secured to the ear 8 through the medium of flange 10 provided at the respective edges of said ear and which engage over said extremities of said bar. Pivotally connected with the eye 9 is a link, the latter being of a sectional nature consisting of pivotally connected sections 11 and 11, the section 11 being of such a length that when the same is in horizontal position projecting outwardly the link 11 depending therefrom Specification of Letters Patent.

will be positioned in close radial proximity with the burner. Said sections 11 and 11 are of a combined length such that when the same are in alinement and in vertical position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the outer extremity of the section 11 will be substantially coplanar with the upper extremity of the head Q and hence of the wick 3 projecting therefrom.
Mounted upon the outer extremity of the link 11 is a pair of scissors 12 of ordinary construction. Said scissors 12 are so arranged, as will be observed, that when the links 11 and 11 are in vertical position as just stated and as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the former will be positioned in a substantially horizontal plane and in a position in which the same may be manually operated in order to effect the trimming or snulting of the wick. With this arrangement the proper cutting of the wick that is at right angles to the vertical edges thereof will be insured since the arrangement is such that when the links 11 and 11 are in extended position and the operativeend of said scissors is resting upon the upper end of the head 3, said scissors will be in a hori zontal plane and hence when operated will out the wick accordingly.
The device is durable and economical and of a design such that when arranged upon an ordinary burner it will not detract from the appearance thereof, and with this provision the proper cutting or trimming of the wick will be insured.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variations or modifications without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction as set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. The combination with a lamp burner comprising a body and a wick mounted therein; of a wick trimming device, said device comprising a link consisting of pivot ally connected sections, one end of said link being pivotally connected with the base of said body; and a manually operable cutting element upon the outer end of said link and upon the outer end of said link, said scissors when swung to a substantially horizontal 15 position over the burner being positioned for eifecting proper cutting of the Wick, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed'my name to this specification in the presence of 20 two subscribing witnesses.
ERICK KARVAKKO.
