Description

C. G. HACKNEY. GARMENT SUPPORTER. APPLICATION IILBD r3113, 1910.
Patented Aug. 29, 1911.
Witwaooeo I afioz mug FIG.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Application filed February 3, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAYTON C. HACKNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roswell, in the county of Chaves and Territory of New Mexico, have invented a new and useful Garment-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple device which may be worn without discomfort, and by which a hose supporter may be held in such position that it will support the hose properly without at the same time binding the limb so as to interfere with the proper circulation of the blood therein and without any liability of the supporter dropping from its proper place.
Such a device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and the invention consists in certain novel features thereof which will be hereinafter first fully described and then specifically claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the preferred form of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3' is a similar view, showing a different position of the device. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing a modification of the invention. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal detail section of the device illustrated in Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a view, showing a different application of the modified form illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a series of loops or retaining holders disposed lengthwise of the leg portions of the undergarment through which loops the hose supporter is passed, whereby the hose supporter will be prevented from dropping and by which it will be held in place without any muscular strain on the limb of the wearer. In Fig. 1 these retaining loops are shown as provided by a strap 1 of some light, soft, flexible materialwhich is sewed to the undergarment at intervals, as indicated at 2, the portion of the strap between the securing points being left free so as to project from the undergarment 3 and thereby present a loop 4, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2. In using the device, the garter or hose supporter 5 is passed around the limb in the usual manner but is inserted through one of the loops 4 before being fastened and attached to the hose, as will be readily understood on reference to the drawing. straps are preferably secured to the undergarment at the outer side of'the same so as to permit the supporter to encircle the limb in the usual manner and be attached to the hose at the usual point. By providing a series of loops 4 and having a plurality of straps so located that the loops will appear in staggered relation, I provide a wide range of adjustment so that the supporter may be readily fitted to any particular conditions.
In Fig. 3, I have shown the strap 1 as secured to the rear side of the undergarment, but otherwise this device is the same as that shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This arrangement may sometimes be preferred inasmuch as it leaves the hose supporter free to be adjusted to either side of the limb, as may be desired by the wearer. In Fig. 4, I have shown a modification of the invention in which, instead of having straps secured to the undergarment, I provide a series of longitudinal slots or openings 6 in the undergarment with the fabric between pairs of slots forming loops through which the band of the garter or hose supporter is threaded, as indicated at 7 in said Fig. 4. This application of the invention will have the advantage of freedom from any external attachments to the undergarment and may sometimes be thought more desirable for that reason. These slots may be placed on the side of the garment, as shown in Fig. 4, or they may be placed at the back of the same, as shown in Fig. 6.
From the foregoing description, it will be readily seen that I have provided a device of exceedingly simple construction which may be manufactured at a trifling cost, and which, in use, will be found very efficient for the purpose for which it is designed. The garter or hose supporter, by the use of my device, will be readily held up in its proper place on the limb of the wearer without any liability of dropping so as to prove embarrassing, and without being drawn so closely around the limb as to retard the circulation and produce muscular fatigue and furthermore without discomfort or injury such as is liable to occur when buttons or other protuberant devices are used to uphold the garter.
The invention may be applied to any form of undergarment now in use and provides a wide range of adjustment so that it may be readily adapted to the varying conditions due to the habits or desires of the wearer.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have what I claim as new, and desire to secure 1 by Letters Patent, is:
1. An undcrgarment provided with leg portions each having a plurality of fabric straps disposed side by side and extending I the claims in the direction of the length of the leg portions, each strap being connected to the garment at intervals and between the points of connection having slack portions constituting retaining loops, the loops of one strap being in staggered relation to those of the adjacent strap.
2. An undergarment provided with leg portions each having a plurality of elon gated series of garter receiving fabric loops extending lengthwise of the leg portions of the undergarment and arranged side by side with the loops of one series in staggered relation to the adjacent series.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CLAYTON G. HACKNEY.
