STAWENT OFFICE- 'e-s' "f" Ir I LLOYD, OF CAMBRIDGE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO ROBERT H.
Eliza. 3
To all whom itnnwy emu-em: Be it known that I, DANIEL LLOYD, a citi- Izen of the United States, residing at Cam bridge, in the county of Dorchester. and State. of Maryland; have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Display-Standsand Carriers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
1 This invention relates to a combined display stand and carrier and is especially adapted for use in conveying a plurality of baskets full of roduce from place to place.
. The object or the invention is to rovide 3 asimply constructed, cheap, and efiiclent device of this character which may be em ployed either as a portable display stand for exhibiting various articles or as means for supporting a plurality of articles to beconveyed' from one place to another.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully descri ed and claimed. y
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a carrier so constructed in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof.
Fig. 3 is a plan view showing a slightly modified fonn thereof.
In the embodiment illustrated, the device which is especially designed for conveying produce from the field to the wagon or cart on which it is to be loaded comprises two' parallel bars 1 and 2 spaced laterally apart and secured together by'means of aplural- 40 ity of article supporting members 3 which may be either round, square, or any other suitable shape to receive and support the receptacles to be moved, such as baskets, boxes, and the like. As shown, these members .3
" aremade in the form of heavy rings to receive baskets, as 4, one of which is shown in .operative position within the support and another partially inserted therein. The ends of these bars 1 and 2 are provided with suitable supports for spacing the bars above the ground or other supporting surface a suitable distance and these supports 5 may also be used as handles when lifting the carrier from place to place. As here shown,
the bars 1 and 2 are Constructed of heavy v Specification of Letters Patent.

metal rods having their ends bent to form inverted l J-sliaped members 5, the outer legs of which are made considerably longer than the inner legs to form supports for holding .thebars suitably spaced above the supporting surface. The terminals of these legs are preferably equipped with base members, as 6, which may be ofan suitable or desired shape and are designe to prevent the legs from embedding themselves in the earth when .the carrier is heavily loaded.
The inner legs of one of the bars are preferably made longer than the corresponding legs of the other bar to provide for slightly ralsing the bar to which; these shortened legs are connected whereby the supporting members 3-. are disposed at a slight incline which may be varied more or less to, dispose the articles to be exhibited in the ositiou wherethey may be readily seen an which is especially" desirable when the device is used as a displa stand in a show window.
In the form 5 own in Fig. 2, the supporting members 3- are shownof different sizes I to support larger or smaller articles.
It will be readily seen that this device may be employed-for a variety of purposes but it is especially applicable for loading or.
unloading a wagon or other vehicle and when heavy loads are carried by said device the' cross' bars of the inverted U-shaped members at the ends thereof may be placed. over the shoulders of the men whereby the load may be more comfortably supported.
From the foregoing description, taken in. connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the -invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation. Various changes in the form, n'oportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention claimed.
- I claim as my invention:-
1. A combined display stand and carrier comprising parallel supporting membr plurality of article supports carried by mgmbers-and secured thereto whereby m mbers are held in spaced relation, haudles connected with the ends of said paralle members and provided with dependia face engaging elements for holding a; allel members suitably spaced above the supporting surface.
2. A combined display stand and car? legs thereof to form sur ace engagmg members for holding the parallel bars suitably spaced above the ground, and article supports secured to said bars,
3. A combined display stand and carrier comprising two parallel laterallyspaced bars having their ends bent to form inverted U-shaped members, the outer legs jOf' said members being'longer than the inner legs thereof and the inner le 's of the members 5 secured" to one of said bars being'shorter; than those of the otherb'ar v'herebj one of the bars -is disposed in a 'plane above the other.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set 2c "my hand in presence of two subscribing Wit? nesses.
