Description
The invention relates to a method of manufacturing sealing elements, in particular packing seals and gaskets, which are used at elevated temperatures and pressures, as well as in aggressive environments, from powdery materials, in particular thermally expanded graphite.
The invention can be used in metallurgy, thermal and atomic energy, oil and gas industry and mechanical engineering.
There is a known method of manufacturing seals (US patent No. 4068853, cl. 277-102, 1996), which includes obtaining graphite foil by rolling thermally expanded graphite, cutting the foil into strips and pressing the obtained graphite strip with its preliminary winding on the mold rod. The rolling process determines the obtaining of a high purity of the surface of the graphite foil - quality of the order of 7-8, which corresponds to the average roughness (unevenness of the profile) Na-0.80-3.2 anm. As a result, during pressing, there is a low degree of adhesion between contacting strips of graphite foil, as a result of which the sealing elements obtained by a known method have low physical and mechanical characteristics. So, for example, the compressive strength of gaskets is 2.4-2.7 MPa, the recovery of the form after removing the load is 12 95. In addition, after pressing, delamination of the pressed material takes place, as a result of which the gasket coefficient does not exceed 1.5. This causes low operational characteristics of sealing elements.
There is also a known method of manufacturing seals from thermally expanded graphite (RF patent 2076085, MKY C04835/536, E16915/16, 1997), which includes the production of foil by rolling thermally expanded graphite powder in rolls with separation of the contact surface by flexible porous tapes with regular microrelief on the surface , cutting the foil into strips, corrugating the foil strips with the ratio of the corrugation step to the distance between the ridges of the corrugations of 0.2-20, the subsequent winding of the foil on the rod of the mold and pressing with a specific pressure of 250 kg/cm".
Corrugation of the surface of the thermally expanded graphite foil to some extent increases the adhesive characteristics of the material, which contributes to some improvement of the physical and mechanical characteristics of the material and, therefore, to a certain increase in the operational characteristics of the finished products. However, corrugation provides structuring of the surface only at the macro level, i.e. the irregularities formed as a result of corrugation, which increase the bond strength of the foil during pressing,
Zo have dimensions of the order of millimeters, while the surface roughness at the micro level remains unchanged, as a result of which, due to the weak adhesion between adjacent layers of graphite foil, only a slight increase in the physical and mechanical characteristics of the sealing elements is ensured. So, for example, with a known method of manufacturing gaskets from thermally expanded graphite, the compressive strength of the finished gaskets is 3.5-4.5 MPa, and the shape recovery after removal of the load is 245905. In addition, in some cases, delamination of the pressed material occurs. The indicator of operational reliability - the laying coefficient is equal to 1.8-2.0. Sealing elements with such characteristics cannot be used in devices that operate under critical parameters of the working environment - for example, in energy equipment of nuclear power plants.
The invention is based on the task of improving the method of manufacturing sealing elements from thermally expanded graphite, in which, as a result of the oxidation of graphite foil strips in the proposed mode before pressing, a significant increase in the surface roughness of the foil is ensured, due to which its adhesive characteristics during pressing are increased and, due to this, physical properties are improved. - mechanical properties and operational characteristics of sealing elements, and delamination of the pressed material is excluded.
The task is accomplished due to the fact that in the method of manufacturing sealing elements from thermo-expanded graphite, which includes obtaining foil by rolling thermo-expanded graphite powder in rolls with separation of the contact surface by flexible porous tapes with regular microrelief on the surface, cutting the foil into strips, then winding the foil strips on rod of the mold and pressing, according to the proposal, strips of graphite foil are subjected to oxidation at a temperature of 700-800 for 30-40 minutes before pressing. in air atmosphere.
When strips of graphite foil are oxidized at a temperature of 700-800 "C for 30-40 minutes in an air atmosphere, the structure of its surface changes at the micro level - the surface roughness increases to Na-25-50 um, which corresponds to the surface cleanliness quality of 14-17. as a result of this, the adhesive properties of the foil surface are significantly increased, which makes it possible to obtain sealing elements with high physical-mechanical and operational characteristics during pressing and to completely exclude delamination of the pressed material.
The proposed method of manufacturing sealing materials from thermally expanded graphite is carried out as follows. Thermally expanded graphite powder is subjected to rolling with separation of the contact surface by flexible porous tapes with regular microrelief on the surface to obtain a graphite foil with a thickness of 0.2-0.5 mm. Then the graphite foil is cut into strips 20-30 mm wide and subjected to oxidation in an air atmosphere at a temperature of 700-800 C for 30-40 minutes. Then strips of foil of a certain length (depending on the size of the sealing element and the required density of the material) are wound on the stem of the mold and subjected to pressing at a specific pressing pressure of 250 kg/cm7. By increasing the roughness of the graphite foil surface as a result of its partial oxidation, sealing elements with high physical and mechanical properties and operational characteristics are obtained, in addition, delamination of the pressed material is completely excluded.
Below are specific examples of obtaining sealing elements in the form of ring gaskets of rectangular cross-section with an outer diameter of Dz-91 mm, an inner diameter

As a result of the high degree of oxidation of the material, the foil strips were unsuitable for pressing.
(приклади 3-4).From the data presented in the table, it follows that during the oxidation of graphite foil strips at a temperature of 600 "C for 20 minutes (example 2), there is an extremely slight improvement in the physical and mechanical characteristics of the gaskets in comparison with the prototype method. At a relatively high oxidation temperature of 900 "C and stay in the oven 30 minutes. (example 5) a high degree of oxidation of the graphite foil strips was observed, as a result of which it lost its strength, which prevented its winding on the mold rod. Thus, to achieve the given task, the most optimal parameters for the oxidation of graphite foil strips are a temperature of 700-800 "C with a duration of 30-40 minutes (examples 3-4).
The proposed method of manufacturing sealing elements makes it possible to significantly improve their physical and mechanical properties, eliminate delamination of finished pressed products and, therefore, improve their operational characteristics.
