Description
本發明是有關於一種顯示裝置,且特別是有關於一種電子紙顯示裝置。
近年來,平面顯示裝置已逐漸成為主流的顯示裝置,其中電子紙顯示裝置因具有省電的特性,在環保議題逐漸受到重視的情況下,電子紙顯示裝置的應用也愈來愈普及。電子紙顯示裝置包括多種類型,其中電泳顯示裝置(electrophoretic display device)的普及率較高。電泳顯示裝置常應用於如行動電話、電子書、數位相框、個人數位助理(personal digital assistant,PDA)等可攜式電子裝置中,以降低可攜式電子裝置的電力消耗。
圖1是習知一種電泳顯示裝置的示意圖。請參照圖1,習知電泳顯示裝置100包括一電泳顯示面板110與一可撓性印刷電路板(flexible printed circuit board,FPCB)120。電泳顯示面板110具有一顯示區112與位於顯示區112旁的一周邊電路區114。此外,電泳顯示面板110具有相對的二長邊116與相對的二短邊118,而可撓性印刷電路板120是連接於電泳顯示面板110的其中一長邊116,且透過接觸端122電性連接至周邊電路區114。另外,可撓性印刷電路板120的接觸端124適於電性連接至可攜式電子裝置的一驅動電路板(圖未式),以使驅動電路板能驅使電泳顯示面板110顯示出所欲顯示的影像。
由於可攜式電子裝置朝向小尺寸的趨勢發展,所以可攜式電子裝置的內部空間通常不大,且內部空間的空間利用率往往很高。在習知技術中,可撓性印刷電路板120都是連接至電泳顯示面板110的長邊116,當應用於可攜式電子裝置時,常會發生電泳顯示裝置100無法輕易置入可攜式電子裝置的內部空間內的情況。如此,需改變可攜式電子裝置之內部元件的佈局(layout)或是增加可攜式電子裝置的尺寸,才能使電泳顯示裝置100能應用於可攜式電子裝置中。
本發明提供一種電子紙顯示裝置,以符合不同需求的應用。
為達上述優點,本發明提出一種電子紙顯示裝置,其包括一電子紙顯示面板以及一可撓性基板。電子紙顯示面板具有相鄰的一第一邊與一第二邊,其中第一邊的長度短於第二邊的長度。此外,可撓性基板連接於電子紙顯示面板的第一邊。
在本發明之一實施例中,上述之電子紙顯示面板為電泳顯示面板。
在本發明之一實施例中,上述之電子紙顯示面板為電濕潤顯示面板(electrowetting display panel)。
在本發明之一實施例中,上述之電子紙顯示面板為膽固醇液晶顯示面板(cholesterol liquid crystal display panel)。
在本發明之一實施例中,上述之可撓性基板為可撓性印刷電路板。
在本發明之電子紙顯示裝置中,由於可撓性基板是連接於電子紙顯示面板的短邊(即第一邊),所以當應用於部分可攜式電子裝置時,可輕易地組裝於可攜式電子裝置內,而不需改變可攜式電子裝置的內部元件的佈局或增加可攜式電子裝置的尺寸。因此,本發明之電子紙顯示裝置可符合不同需求的應用。
為讓本發明之上述和其他目的、特徵和優點能更明顯易懂,下文特舉較佳實施例,並配合所附圖式,作詳細說明如下。
圖2是本發明一實施例之一種電子紙顯示裝置的示意圖。請參照圖2,本實施例之電子紙顯示裝置200包括一電子紙顯示面板210以及一可撓性基板220。電子紙顯示面板210具有一顯示區212與位於顯示區212旁的一周邊電路區214。此外,電子紙顯示面板210具有相鄰的一第一邊216與一第二邊218,其中第一邊216位於周邊電路區214旁,且第一邊216的長度短於第二邊218的長度。另外,可撓性基板220是連接於電子紙顯示面板210的第一邊216,且電性連接至周邊電路區214。
上述之電子紙顯示面板210之形狀例如為矩形。此外,電子紙顯示面板210可為電泳顯示面板、電濕潤顯示面板、膽固醇液晶顯示面板或其他雙穩態顯示面板(bi-stable display panel)。
可撓性基板220例如為可撓性印刷電路板。可撓性基板220具有相鄰的一第三邊222與一第四邊224,其中第三邊222設有接觸端226,以電性連接至電子紙顯示面板210之周邊電路區214。此外,可撓性基板220的接觸端228適於電性連接至電子顯示裝置外部的一驅動電路板(如可攜式電子裝置的驅動電路板),以使驅動電路板能驅動電子紙顯示面板210顯示所欲顯示的影像。另外,在本實施例中,電子紙顯示面板210的第一邊216的長度例如是等於可撓性基板220的第三邊222的長度。
有鑑於習知技術之電子紙顯示裝置無法輕易地組裝於部分可攜式電子裝置內,導致需改變可攜式電子裝置內部元件的佈局或是增加可攜式電子裝置的尺寸,本實施例之電子紙顯示裝置200係將可撓性基板220連接於電子紙顯示面板210的短邊(即第一邊216)。如此,當應用於部分可攜式電子裝置時,可輕易地組裝於可攜式電子裝置內,而不需改變可攜式電子裝置的內部元件的佈局或增加可攜式電子裝置的尺寸。因此,本實施例之電子紙顯示裝置200可符合不同需求的應用。
圖3是本發明另一實施例之電子紙顯示裝置的示意圖。請參照圖3,本實施例之電子紙顯示裝置200’與圖2之電子紙顯示裝置200相似,差別處在於電子紙顯示裝置200’的可撓性基板220’的第三邊222的長度短於電子紙顯示面板210之第一邊216的長度。由於電子紙顯示面板210與可撓性基板220’的連接處之結構較為脆弱,所以較容易導致接觸不良的情形。因此,本實施例將可撓性基板220’的第三邊222的長度設計成短於電子紙顯示面板210之第一邊216的長度,以減少電子紙顯示面板210與可撓性基板220’的連接處之面積。如此,可使結構較為脆弱的部分減少,以降低發生接觸不良的機率,進而提升電子紙顯示裝置200’的可靠度。
相較於可撓性基板220,由於可撓性基板220’的第三邊222的長度縮短,所以可增加可撓性基板220’的第四邊224的長度,使可撓性基板220’具有足夠的面積供線路佈局。
綜上所述,本發明之電子紙顯示裝置至少具有下列優點:
1.相較於習知技術,由於本發明之可撓性基板是連接至電子紙顯示面板的短邊(即第一邊),所以本發明之電子紙顯示裝置可符合不同需求的應用。
2.藉由減少可撓性基板與電子紙顯示面板的連接觸的面積可提升本發明之電子紙顯示裝置的可靠度。
雖然本發明已以較佳實施例揭露如上,然其並非用以限定本發明,本發明所屬技術領域中具有通常知識者,在不脫離本發明之精神和範圍內,當可作些許之更動與潤飾,因此本發明之保護範圍當視後附之申請專利範圍所界定者為準。

Claims (7)
- 一種電子紙顯示裝置,包括:一電子紙顯示面板,具有相鄰的一第一邊與一第二邊,其中該第一邊的長度短於該第二邊的長度,該電子紙顯示面板更具有一顯示區與一位於該顯示區旁的周邊電路區,且該周邊電路區沿著該第一邊與該第二邊設置;以及一可撓性基板,連接於該電子紙顯示面板的該第一邊。
- 如申請專利範圍第1項所述之電子紙顯示裝置,其中該電子紙顯示面板為電泳顯示面板。
- 如申請專利範圍第1項所述之電子紙顯示裝置,其中該電子紙顯示面板為電濕潤顯示面板。
- 如申請專利範圍第1項所述之電子紙顯示裝置,其中該電子紙顯示面板為膽固醇液晶顯示面板。
- 如申請專利範圍第1項所述之電子紙顯示裝置,其中該可撓性基板為可撓性印刷電路板。
- 如申請專利範圍第1項所述之電子紙顯示裝置,其中該可撓性基板具有一連接該第一邊的第三邊,且該第一邊的長度與該第三邊的長度相等。
- 一種電子紙顯示裝置,包括:一電子紙顯示面板,具有相鄰的一第一邊與一第二邊,其中該第一邊的長度短於該第二邊的長度;以及一可撓性基板,連接於該電子紙顯示面板的該第一邊,該可撓性基板具有一連接該第一邊的第三邊,且該第一邊的長度與該第三邊的長度相等。
