Compression Or Coding Systems Of Tv Signals
(AREA)
Abstract
A television signal receiver includes an MPEG decoder (62-66) for providing decoded and decompressed pixel blocks. Decoded pixel blocks are recompressed (12) (quantified) as a function of at least one predetermined pixel block parameter prior to storage in frame memory (14) to reduce memory requirements. The block parameters are grouped in a parameter field to increase data throughput efficiency. Each quantified pixel block is transported as the compressed data payload of a data packet, including a header containing the parameter field. When the recompressed data is accessed from memory by a display processor (54), the block parameters allow the system to accurately recompress/reconstruct the pixel block.
