Abstract

A monoazo compound suitable for dyeing or printing materials having a hydroxy group and/or an amide group represented by the following general formula (I), where in D represents a phenyl group, phenyl group, substituted by one or two substituent selected from C 1-4 alkoxyl, C 1-4 alkyl, halogeno, carboxyl and sulfo group, or naphthyl group, or naphthyl group substituted by one or more sulfo group: A represents a group represented by the following formula, in which R1 represents a methyl group or a carboxyl group or R2 represents a hydroxyl group or an amino group, R3 represents a hydroxyl group or an amino group, R represents a hydrogen atom, or a sulfo group and * represents the portion connecting to the azo group; or A represents a group represented by the following formula, in which W represents a C2-4 alkylene group, R4 represents a C1-4 alkyl group, R5 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a cyano group and * represents the portion connecting to the azo group: R6 and R7 are the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom or a straight chain C 1-5 alkyl group; R8 represents a hydrogen atom, a straight chain C1-5 alkyl, C1-5 alkyl group substituted by hydroxy group; R9 represents a hydrogen atom, C1-5 alkyl, C1-5 alkyl group substituted by hydroxy group C1-4-alkoxy, sulfo or carboxyl group, a phenyl group, phenyl group substituted by sulfo. Carboxyl, C1-5 alkyl, halogeno, C1-4 alkoxy or acetylamino group, benzyl or a naphthyl group substituted by sulfo group: n is 2. 3 or 4; Y represent -CH=CH2 or -CH2CH2Z in which Z represents -OsO3H or halogeno group: provided that the substituents on D, R3, and R9, do not include a fiber reactive group, and at least one of the phenyl or naphthyl groups represented by D, R3, or R9, is substituted by a sulfo group or a carboxyl group; or a salt thereof.
