Abstract

The present invention is to an adhesive matrix-type transdermal therapeutic set for motion sickness. The present set includes a backing layer, a drug-matrix adhesive layer, and a release liner. The drug-matrix adhesive layer is prepared by dissolving or dispersing scopolamine in pressure-sensitive adhesives or in a polymer matrix coated with pressure-sensitive adhesives. When the set is administered to the patient, the release liner is removed from the system prior to the application and the drug-matrix adhesive layer is in direct contacting with the skin surface. Hence, the scopolamine is released from the drug-matrix adhesive layer and systemically absorbed through the skin. No rate-controlling membrane is utilized in the present set to control the drug release rate, and therefore, the manufacture process will be more simple and cost less as compared to the reservoir-type one. In addition, the present invention provides a convenient and safe method for the administration of scopolamine.
