Abstract

A driving apparatus for a sewing machine comprises: a main motor; an auxiliary motor; a motor shaft; a flywheel fixed on a rotor of the main motor; a rotary member fixed on the motor shaft such that the rotary member faces the flywheel; a transmission mechanism for transmitting rotations from the auxiliary motor to the rotary member in which the transmission mechanism connects with the outer end of the motor shaft; a motor pulley provided at the outer end of the motor shaft; a motor lever for moving the motor shaft in which the motor lever operates to urge the rotary member against the flywheel to transmit rotations from the motor pulley through a belt to an arm shaft; an auxiliary brake directly operative to the rotary member; and a one way clutch rotatable in opposite to the rotor-rotational direction disposed between the transmission mechanism and the outer end of the motor shaft.
