Abstract

The present invention provides a liquid crystal alignment agent which comprises components of good solubility and can be used to produce a liquid crystal display element exhibiting an improved residual image eliminating property, liquid crystal alignment film, liquid crystal display element, polymer, diamine and tetracarboxylic dianhydride. The aforementioned liquid crystal alignment agent comprises a compound (P) which has a partial structure represented by the following formula (1) (in the formula (1), Y 1 is a protecting group; " * " is a bonding). The liquid crystal alignment film provided by the present invention is formed by using the liquid crystal alignment agent. The liquid crystal display element provided by the present invention comprises the liquid crystal alignment film.
