Description

Label component

The present invention relates to label assemblies, in particular, to label assemblies that can be easily removed.

Self-adhesive labels are widely used for a variety of organizational and communication purposes. In general, it has a basic construction comprising a body or facestock having an adhesive (sometimes referred to as a label stock) on the back surface of the body or facestock. The body can be a single layer or can be constructed in multiple layers. The front surface is typically adapted to receive a legend, for example, by typing, handwriting, printing with a computer printer, and the like. For example, the image-receiving layer can be disposed on the front surface of the body to make it easier to place the desired legend or information thereon. Illustrative examples of materials for use in the label body include paper, polymeric films, fabrics, and the like, with the choice being dependent in part on the desired performance properties of the resulting label. Many different adhesives are known for use in label construction, with the choice being dependent in part on factors such as desired label performance, intended substrate, host properties, and the like.

Many of the label components currently marketed (sometimes referred to as "label sheets") contain die-cut labels that can be individually formed by peeling individual labels from carrier sheets or liners or by individualizing the label components. Each label is adhesively attached to the smaller label assembly of its liner and removed from the label assembly. These individual labels are provided on a label assembly having perforations that allow separation or have been individualized.

Illustrative examples of some known tag components are disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 6,803,084 (Do et al.), 6,837,957 (Flynn et al.), 6,860,050 (Flynn et al.), and 7,208,212 (Do et al.), and 7,709,071 (Wong et al.), U.S. Application Publications No. 2005/0089663 (Wong et al.) and 2009/0075010 (Flynn et al.). Other examples include Japanese Patent Laid-Open Application No. 2007-271986 and Publication No. 2006-514335.

The carrier sheet and the label stock are each typically disposed as a continuous sheet that is converted into a plurality of segments as described herein after the label sheet is removably adhered to the carrier sheet.

The front side of the label stock sheet desirably has a printable surface. The phrase "printable surface" means the surface of any type of object that a person or machine can draw, print, color, paint, photocopy, write, emboss, or make any other type of indicia or graphic. A laser printer, an inkjet printer, an impact printer, a thermal transfer printer, a direct thermal printer, a typewriter or any other suitable graphic printing device for use in accordance with the present invention Printable surface use is preferred but not required.

The label stock sheet is preferably, but not necessarily, comprised of any suitable paper, paper composite, plastic, woven, non-metallic, and/or sheet metal material that can be used as a label. The choice of suitable materials will depend, in part, on the desired application, including factors such as desired color, humidity stability, flexibility, elongation, elasticity, acceptability to the imaged material, and the like.

Those skilled in the art will be able to easily select the appropriate label stock material for the desired application. In many embodiments, the label stock sheet will be in its positive The major surface includes a top layer and an adhesive layer is included on the back major surface of the top layer.

In addition to being removably adhered to the carrier sheet, the adhesive also permits the label of the present invention to adhere to the adherent as needed after removal as provided herein. In many embodiments, the adhesive will be pressure sensitive, but depending on the label efficacy, the desired active adhesive can be used as needed. Repositionable, removable and permanently bonded adhesives can be used as needed. If a light transmissive adhesive is used, the color(s) of the substrate to which the label is applied will provide a special effect through the label, for example, if the labels are used as name tags, they are worn in different colors. The label on the person with the clothes will have a unique appearance. If desired, one or more coloring agents, such as pigments and dyes, can be incorporated into the adhesive layer to impart the desired appearance to the resulting label.

BPW6116。 Suitable adhesives for the selected label application can be readily selected by those skilled in the art. Some illustrative examples of the adhesive that can be used for the adhesive layer 5 include an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive, a pressure sensitive adhesive, a natural rubber pressure sensitive adhesive, a synthetic rubber pressure sensitive adhesive, and a urethane pressure sensitive adhesive. . In addition, any type of pressure sensitive adhesive from a permanent pressure sensitive adhesive and a removable pressure sensitive adhesive can be used. A suitable release treatment and coating (e.g., silicone resin) can be applied to the major major surface of the carrier sheet to achieve the desired removable adhesion to the label stock sheet. This choice will depend in part on factors such as: adhesion The nature of the agent, the conditions under which the label will be stored, used and coated.

First embodiment

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a front elevational view showing a label assembly involved in a first embodiment of the present invention. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the label assembly shown in FIG. 1. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the label assembly 1 comprises a carrier sheet 2 in the form of a sheet and a label stock sheet 3 removably adhered to the positive major surface of the carrier sheet 2. The carrier sheet is formed in a fixed size (for example, a rectangular shape).

9。 The carrier sheet 2 has a plurality of slits 8 which configure the carrier sheet 2 into a plurality of sections, that is, in this embodiment four carriers in the form of elongated rectangles surrounded by the carrier frame section 2a Strip section 9.

3a。 The label stock sheet 3 is configured by the slit 6 into a plurality of sections, including five adjacent rows adjacent the label 7 and a frame section 3a surrounding the label array.

The slit 6 in the label stock sheet may be a perforation, a partial slot or the like through the label stock sheet 3, but is generally preferably a substantially complete cut through the sheet 3 such that the label 7 is easily removed from the assembly 1 and Has a smoother edge after removal.

The slit 8 in the carrier sheet 2 is a weakened separation line in the carrier sheet 2, including, for example, perforations through the sheet, partial slots, and the like. The slit 8 does not reach the outer edge of the carrier sheet 2. Since the slit 8 does not reach the outer edge of the carrier sheet 2, the outer edge of the carrier strip section 9 and the outer edge of the label assembly 1 will be placed at different positions. Therefore, when the label 7 as discussed below is used, it is easy to grasp the end of the carrier strip section 9 with a finger.

40 mm。 The width of the carrier strip section 9 is generally from about 2 mm to about 60 mm, preferably from about 4 mm to 40 mm.

As shown in Fig. 3, the end of the carrier strip section 9 can also be provided with a tab 9a which is wider than the carrier strip section 9 to allow the carrier strip section 9 to be easily held by fingers.

As shown in FIG. 2, for example, the label stock sheet 3 comprises a facing layer 4 (for example, comprising a film or paper), and an adhesive layer 5 formed using a pressure sensitive adhesive. An adhesive layer 5 on the face material layer 4 is formed on the opposite side of the first side of the carrier sheet 2, and the bonded face material layer 4 is removable for the first side of the carrier sheet 2.

A grid of slits 6 is made in the label stock 3 to form a rectangular label 7. Typically, the slits 6 are arranged to form a label 7 which is an intervening portion of the label sheet 3 adjacent to each other and without the label. As shown in Figure 1, the grid of slits 6 is only disposed on the inner portion of the label stock sheet 3 and does not reach the outer edge of the label stock sheet 3, thereby defining the face frame 3a surrounding the array of labels 7. However, if desired, depending on the purpose, one or more of the slits 6 can also be configured such that it will reach the outer edge of the label stock sheet 3 and the entire area of the label stock sheet 3 enters the label 7 configuration. In the area, as shown in Figure 4.

The slit 8 on the carrier sheet 2 is configured such that its longitudinal central axis is aligned with the demarcated edges of the two rows of labels 7. As a result, each carrier strip section 9 is laid down in the edge portion of the label 7 in the two rows. The remainder of the label 7 is placed over the other portion of the carrier sheet 2 (i.e., the liner segment).

When the label 7 in the label assembly 1 having the configuration shown in Fig. 5 is used, the two rows of the label 7 and their respective edges placed on both sides of the carrier strip section 9 can be used by Finger holding is not in contact with the edge of the label assembly 1 The end of the body strip section 9 and the carrier strip section 9 are peeled off from the second side of the carrier sheet 2 along the slit 8 and exposed immediately. Thereafter, the label 7 can be easily removed from the label assembly by being grasped and removed by hand.

In addition, a plurality of labels 7 can be configured to abut against the carrier sheet 2 on the label assembly 1, since the labels 7 are arranged in a matrix without any gaps. At the same time, the carrier strip section 9 can extend to protrude beyond the outer edge of the label 7, as shown in Figures 1 and 3. The carrier strip section 9 can also extend to a position where it overlaps the label 7 at the farthest end of the interior of the label 7.

9。 In addition, the carrier strip section 9 need not be placed to correspond to all the spaces between the labels 7, and the carrier strip sections 9 can also be placed alternately, that is, only every other one of the label rows The edge of the boundary. The task of forming and stripping the carrier strip segments 9 can be minimized by placing the carrier strip segments 9 at a minimum number of locations required. Typically, each tag 7 will have at least one carrier strip section 9 underlying its edge.

Second embodiment

Figure 6 is a front elevational view showing the label assembly 11 of the second embodiment of the present invention. Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view of the label assembly shown in Figure 6. As shown in Figures 6 and 7, the label assembly 11 is different from the label assembly 1 of the first embodiment in that the noodle strip segments 12 are formed between the labels 7 in adjacent rows in the label stock 3.

In the label assembly 11, an interval having a width narrower than that of the carrier strip section 9 is prepared between the labels 7 in the adjacent rows in the label stock sheet 3, and the almost elongated rectangular noodle strip section 12 is used An almost elongated rectangular slit 13 is formed in the label stack 3 along the preparation area along the label 7 and its edges. Formed between the labels 7 at almost equal intervals.

12。 The length of the noodle strip section 12 rectangle is shorter than the length of the carrier strip section 9, and any portion of the noodle strip section 12 is configured such that neither part of it extends beyond the outer strip section 9 limit. As shown in Figure 8, along with the additional tab 9a at the end of the carrier strip section 9 that is wider than the carrier strip section 9, the end of the noodle strip section 12 can also be provided wider than the noodle strip The tab 12a of the segment 12. Therefore, the noodle strip section 12 can be easily held by fingers.

As shown in Fig. 9(a), the end of the noodle strip section 12 can match the boundary line between the face frame 3a and the label 7 as needed, or as shown in Fig. 9(b), the noodle strip area The end of the segment 12 can be placed outside the boundary line between the face frame 3a and the label 7. The noodle strip section 12 can also be placed inside the boundary line between the face frame 3a and the arrangement area of the label 7, as shown in Fig. 9(c).

60 mm。 The width of the carrier strip section 9 in the label assembly 11 can be selected to add an amount to the spacing between adjacent rows of the label 7. For example, if the width of the noodle strip section 12 is X, the width of the carrier strip section 9 can be set to X plus 2 mm to 60 mm.

As shown in FIG. 10, when the label 7 in the label assembly 11 having this configuration is used, by holding the end of the carrier strip section 9 placed inside the outer edge of the label assembly 11, and the self-supporting sheet lining The second side of the pad 2 peels off the carrier strip section 9 along the slit 8, and the noodle strip section 12 is simultaneously peeled off with the carrier strip section 9, so that the two rows of the label 7 and their placement on the carrier strip The edges on both sides of the belt section 9 can be immediately exposed. Thereafter, the label 7 can be easily grasped by hand and removed from the label assembly 11.

In addition, the label 7 in the label assembly 11 can be easily held by fingers. Since the carrier strip section 9 and the noodle strip section 12 are peeled off, a gap will be created between the label 7 and its edge. In addition, even in the second embodiment, the carrier strip section 9 and the noodle strip section 12 do not necessarily have to be placed to correspond to all the spaces between the labels 7, the carrier strip section 9 and the noodle strip section. 12 can be placed alternately. The task of forming and stripping the carrier strip segments 9 can be minimized by placing the carrier strip segments 9 and the noodle strip segments 12 at a minimum number of locations.

Other embodiments

Figure 11 is a front elevational view of a label assembly 21 showing a third embodiment of the present invention, wherein the carrier strip section 9 is defined by a perforated slit 22 in its intermediate portion and a continuous slit 23 in its end portion. . Similar to the embodiment discussed above, the two edges on the sides of the two rows of labels 7 overlie the carrier strip segments 9 and can be removed by removing the carrier strip segments 9 and the noodle strip segments 12 and exposed. In addition, by having the perforated line 22 as the middle portion of the boundary of the carrier strip section 9, the carrier strip section 9 can be processed and disposed of, for example, in the label assembly (such as by a desktop printer, etc.) Prevention is prevented from being inadvertently removed, and printing is facilitated by reducing the likelihood of interference when the label assembly 21 is passed through the printer. In addition to this, since the label 7 can be peeled off after only the noodle strip section 12 is peeled off, the convenience of the label assembly 21 is increased.

By forming the two ends of the boundary of the carrier strip section 9 with a continuous slit 23 instead of the perforated line 22 as shown in Fig. 11, the two ends can be made to peel off the starting point of the carrier strip section 9.

Figure 12 is a front elevational view showing a label assembly involved in another embodiment of the present invention. In the tag assembly 31, there are many different rows underlying the tag 7. The two portions of the carrier strip section 9 are joined by a link joint 32. By this configuration, the edges of all the labels 7 and their edges can be immediately exposed by removing the carrier strip segments 9. As will be appreciated, the link joint 32 is not limited to the format in which the ends of the carrier strip segments 9 are joined together; it can also join any portion together, including the intermediate portion. In addition, when the carrier strip section 9 is placed in a plurality of rows, one of the other ends can be alternately joined to the other end using the link joint 32. The link joint 32 can also be positioned in an area that overlaps the face frame section 3a.

Further, as shown in FIG. 13, in another embodiment, the label 7 is not placed in the area in which the link joint 32 is positioned. In this case, even after removal of the carrier strip section 9, the facing layer 4 will remain in the area of the carrier sheet 2 at the position corresponding to the link joint 32, thereby enhancing the dimensional stability of the label assembly 31. .

Figure 14 is a front elevational view showing still another embodiment in which the labels 7 are not adjacent but define a spacing in the label assembly 41, i.e., the corners of the face spacing section 42 in the face sheet 3 and the adjacent label 7 cross. The face spacing sections 42 are each completely above the larger carrier strip section 9 such that when the carrier strip section 9 is removed, the face spacing sections are also removed, making it easier to grasp and be affected The edge of the label.

As shown in Fig. 15, in the case where the perforated line 43 is formed on the carrier strip section 9 in the direction in which the longitudinal direction intersects, since the peeling of the carrier strip section can be stopped by the position of the perforated line 43, The number of tags 7 used at one time can be adjusted. As shown in Fig. 16, the noodle strip 44 may also be formed as an area other than the corner of the label 7 (two of each adjacent line constituting a total of four positions) Location) contact.

Figure 17 is a front elevational view showing a label assembly 51 of yet another embodiment. On the illustrated label assembly 51, the corners of the label 7 are shaped to be slightly rounded, and the noodle strips 52 are formed without any gap between the labels 7 in adjacent rows. In addition, the triangular projections 54 on the carrier strip section 53 project in the direction of the boundary between the adjacent labels 7. With such a configuration, it is possible to expose the edges of the label 7 more widely when the carrier strip section 53 and the noodle strip section 52 are removed.

The projections 54 do not necessarily have to be the boundaries between the labels 7. For example, if desired, the protrusions may also protrude in the direction of the center of the label 7, as shown in FIG. As will be appreciated, the shape of the projections 54 is not limited to a triangle (such as shown in Figures 17 and 18), which may be in other shapes (such as rectangular or circular).

19 is a front elevational view showing a label assembly 61 of yet another embodiment. On the illustrated label assembly 61, the noodle strip section 62 and the carrier strip section 63 are formed non-coaxially and asymmetrically. More specifically, on the label assembly 61, the noodle strip section 62 is placed only at the center of the space between the labels 7 in adjacent rows, and the main portion of the carrier strip section 63 is placed The side close to the 7 rows of the label is unevenly distributed. Next, a projection 64 projecting in the direction of the center of the label 7 in one row on the other side of the main portion of the carrier strip section 63 is formed on the carrier strip section 63 to correspond to the noodle strip section 62 overlap.

According to such a configuration, it is possible to expose a sufficiently broad portion of the edge of the label 7 when the carrier strip section 63 and the noodle strip section 62 are peeled off. This will It is extremely easy to remove the label 7 of a column. In addition, even after peeling off the carrier strip section 63, the label stock sheet 3 will remain on the carrier sheet 2 in the area where the noodle strip section 62 is not formed between the labels 7, thus making it possible to secure the label assembly The shape of 61 remains.
