Abstract

A process for preparing a nano-carbon material on a silicon substrate by thermal or plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is disclosed. The process of the present invention includes immersing the silicon substrate in a solution containing ions of Fe, Co or Ni to deposit particles of Fe, Co or Ni thereon by a displacement reaction; and immersing the resulting substrate in another solution containing ions of a noble metal to displace a portion of Fe, Co or Ni by a displacement reaction, so that a catalyst in the form of mixed-metal particles is formed on the silicon substrate. The process of the present invention can be applied to a silicon substrate having a large surface area for growing a nano-carbon material thereon at a relatively lower temperature of about 400 DEG C.
