Abstract

Provided are a novel liquid crystal material using nanoparticles and a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal material. The liquid crystal material comprises a liquid crystal base material and a nanoparticle of metal oxides added to the liquid crystal base material. The liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal display element which has a pair of transparent substrates oppositely disposed, transparent electrode formed on the opposite side of the transparent substrates, alignment films covering the transparent electrodes and formed on the opposite side of the transparent substrates, a liquid crystal material layer sandwiched between the alignment films of the opposite substrate and containing a liquid base material and a nanoparticle of metal oxides added to the liquid crystal base material; and a drive circuit connected to the transparent electrodes and supplying a duty driving signal to the drive circuit.
