Abstract

Disclosed herein is a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a flat panel display, comprising the steps of: chemically polishing a glass substrate for a flat panel display with an aqueous solution containing hydrofluoric acid (ST2); checking the glass substrate chemically polished to see whether or not a recessed flaw having a maximum diameter of 50 to 2,000 μm exists in order to detect a defective glass substrate having such a recessed flaw (ST3); applying a first coating agent to the recessed flaw of the defective glass substrate (ST11); applying a second coating agent to the recessed flaw to which the first coating agent has been applied so that the second coating agent overflows the recessed flaw (ST12); curing the second coating agent (ST14); and planarizing the surface of the glass substrate by removing only the cured second coating agent that bulges out from the surface of the glass substrate (ST16). Such a manufacturing method makes it possible to manufacture a high-quality glass substrate for a flat panel display at a high yield rate.
