Abstract

A material for underwater suit comprised of an elastic foam, which material is characterized by possessing elastic foam layer (2) having at least one surface thereof provided with multiple depressions (1). When it is used as a wet suit in such a fashion that depression openings of the elastic foam layer (2) face the body, water is retained in the depressions (1) to thereby facilitate the formation of water film between the body and the suit. As the depressions (1) do not pass through the elastic foam layer (2), not only is outside emission of warmed water restricted but also the penetration of cold water from outside is limited. Consequently, a high thermal insulation effect can be attained. Moreover, when the material is used as a dry suit, air can be retained in the depressions (1) to thereby attain high thermal insulation effect and buoyancy.
