Abstract

In a large-sized liquid crystal display according to this invention, a light source of an optimum condition, which is excellent in efficiency, is disposed at an upper part or a lower part, or both of the upper and the lower part. Light is indirectly irradiated from a space left on a rear side of a liquid crystal panel. For this purpose, on the rear side of the liquid crystal panel, a reflector plate for reflecting the light from the light source to guide the light to the liquid crystal panel is installed with a space kept from the liquid crystal panel. This structure makes it possible to detach and exchange each light source from the large-sized liquid crystal display. Therefore, a lamp of a short lift can be used as each light source. According to this invention, it is possible to realize the large-sized liquid crystal panel which is light in weight, low in power consumption, and low in cost.
