Abstract

Disclosed is a battery charging device and method thereof. The charging device is connected to a power source to provide electricity for battery charging, comprises a counting unit, a clock generating unit, and a control unit. The charging method utilizes the clock signal generated by the clock generating unit to control the frequency of counting signal generated by the counting unit. The control unit controls amount of charging current supplied by the power source in accordance with counting status of the counting signal; namely, at the beginning only a small amount of current is supplied to the battery, and then the charging current is slowly increased in accordance with the status of the counting signal until the counting signal stops changing. Afterwards, a constant current of the magnitude is supplied to charge the battery until the full capacity of the battery is reached. The counting unit is used to control the amount of charging current and by charging with a small electric current at the beginning, damages to the battery due to instantaneous current surge can be avoided.
