Abstract

To provide a method for producing a silicon carbide nano-fiber in which an extremely fine and long silicon carbide nano-fiber can be easily and reliably produced. The method for producing a silicon carbide nano-fiber comprises the steps of: mixing a silicon carbide precursor polymer and a carbon precursor polymer; melting and spinning a polymer mixture obtained by the aforementioned mixing step; infusibilizing a silicon carbide precursor polymer and a carbon precursor polymer, which are contained in a fibrous substance obtained by the aforementioned melting and spinning step; carrying out a heat treatment of a fiber made infusible by the aforementioned infusibilizing step; and carrying out an acid treatment of the fiber subjected to the aforementioned heat treatment.
