Abstract

A drum type washing and drying machine includes a water tub 3; a cylindrical rotary drum 2 for accommodating laundry articles therein and having a number of holes 8 formed on a peripheral surface thereof, the rotary drum 2 being installed in the water tub 3 such that a rotational axis thereof is horizontal or declined toward the rear portion of the washing machine; a motor 7 for rotating the rotary drum 2; and a dry air circulation path for blowing air exhausted from the water tub 3 into the water tub 3 again via an air flow passage incorporating therein a dehumidifying unit 38, a fan 15 and a heater 20. A dehumidification unit accommodating chamber 16 for accommodating therein the dehumidifying unit 38 is disposed near an upper peripheral surface of the water tub 3, and an air outlet 21 communicated with the dehumidifying unit accommodating chamber 16 is installed on the sidewall of the water tub 3 in a direction substantially tangent to a rotational direction of the rotary drum 2.
