Abstract
Disclosed is to provide a copper catalyst having high activity and excellent in heat-resistant, durability and the process for producing the catalyst in low cost and simple process. Catalyst for steam reforming of methanol can be produced the process comprising the steps: the oxide surface layer containing Cu fine particles from an oxide and a transition metal oxide of Al in the surface of the Al alloy particle by means of adjusting a condition of the leaching processing in an alkali water solution to the Al alloy particle which is provided by crushing the Al alloy lump obtained from quasi crystal or their related crystalline phase shown in formula Al100-y-zCuyTMz (where z of 5-20 atom % ; y of 10-30 atom % ; TM which is selected from at least one transition metal except Cu), Cu fine particles in the oxide surface layer formed from Al oxide and transition metal oxide is dispersed onto the surface of said Al alloy particle, then heating said leached treated Al alloy particle under oxidizing atmosphere to get Al alloy particle having oxide surface layer, wherein part or all part of said copper fine particle in the said oxide surface layer converted into copper oxide fine particle ready for use of catalyst for steam reforming of methanol.
