The invention relates to Meteopology, and more specifically to studies of ice formation with thermal diffusion chambers, and can be used to study gas-phase reactions, phase transitions in the presence of germs and polycrystal growth, as well as in microbiology and medicine.
Known thermal diffusion chambers have a body made of a thermal insulator. In the chamber there are two metal surfaces located in the same plane or one above the other with an air gap. One surface made in the form of a ring (the top plate in another modification of the chamber) is wetted with water and is a humidifier. The second surface located inside the ring (under the humidifier) is an object stage on which the aerosol sample is installed, preliminarily deposited on a filter or a metal specular (polished) disc. The humidifier and the stage are separated by heat insulator. Their temperatures are reversed autonomously. The temperature of the table (the object under study) is set, then the temperature of the evaporator is changed, thereby changing the humidity above the object. Thus, depending on the temperature of the table and the evaporator, you can
1.10 to establish any moisture above the sample at which the activation of ice-forming nuclei occurs. This method is distinguished by its simplicity, convenience, and high accuracy in maintaining temperature and humidity 1.
The disadvantage of the method is associated with the exhaustion of water vapor in the chamber due to the high density of particles in the aerosol sample. Hydrophilic particles
Через окно 6наблюдают за процессом нуклеации и ведут подсчет образовавшихс лед ных кристаллов, определ льдообразующую эффективность аэрозольной пробы .20 absorb a significant part of the water vapor, and the slow process of its diffusion from the source does not have time to replenish this depletion. Therefore, for E9, activation of ice-forming nuclei, condensation less active, the remaining amount of vapor is not enough, which leads to significant errors in determining the ice-forming activity of aerosols. This error increases with the number of parts in the sample. Dynamic thermal diffusion chambers are known in which air is circulated in a closed circuit. The air stream is blown through the radiator cooled to the desired temperature, saturated there with water vapor to the required value and then passes over the aerosol sample deposited on any substrate (polished disk, foil or filter. Water vapor diffuses from the air stream to the aerosol sample). activating the ice-forming cores. Thus, the forced entry of water vapor to the aerosol sample significantly reduces its losses due to the absorption of steam by a large amount of condensation However, the different parts of the jet are not equally cooled, and the turbulent nature of its movement increases the unevenness of sample moistening even more, since the temperature of the source of water vapor and, consequently, of the blown air, is higher and higher than the temperature of the sample with the sample, This heat is transferred from the jet to the sample and its temperature rises, which leads to additional errors. The closest to the offer is a thermal diffusion chamber with a thermally insulated casing and a viewing window containing a contact LPS ruyuschie with E thermopile stage and a humidifier for aerosol sample 3. However, the use of thermal diffusion chamber also leads to significant errors in the determination of the activity of an ice aerosols invention aim - increase the exactness of an ice detecting aerosols activity. This goal is achieved by the fact that the sample table for aerosol samples is equipped with a controllable movable screen made of vapor-tight hydrophobic material. Figure 1 schematic. Tically shows the proposed device; in Fig.2 a table with a sample and a screen with a cut-out, top view. The body of the camera 1 you., Is determined from the heat insulator. Inside the chamber, an annular shaped humidifier 2 is installed, into which water is poured. In the center of the ring, coaxially with it, there is an object table 3 on which a polished metal disc or filter is installed, with a preliminary precipitated aerosol sample 4. From above, the chamber 5 is covered with a window cover 6 for observation that has three panes to prevent fogging. The humidifier and the table are cooled by semiconductor thermopiles 7, which are separated by an annular heat insulator 8. A thin controlled screen 9 is installed on the table, which covers the top of the aerosol sample from the access of water vapor from the chamber volume. The screen 9 can be moved along the guides 10. The screen position is controlled by two threads 11 and 12, passed through a thin hole in the case 1. The thread 12 is thrown through the block 13 inside the chamber. The device operates in the following sequence. A filter or polished metal disk k with an aerosol sample k is placed on the stage 3 and water is poured into the humidifier 2. After closing the lid of the chamber 5, the voltage is supplied to the heat humidifier 2 and the thermocouple 7 and the humidifier 2 is cooled to the desired operating temperature. After establishing the design temperature of the humidifier, having pulled the thread 12, screen 9 closes the sample k. Then lower the temperature of the sample to work. After waiting for the calculated filling pressure of water vapor corresponding to the humidifier temperature to be established in the entire volume of the chamber, sample 4 is opened by pulling the thread 11. The aerosol test is in the atmosphere with the calculated humidity and the nucleation of water and ice occurs on its particles. Through the window 6, the nucleation process is observed and the ice crystals formed are counted, determining the ice-forming efficiency of the aerosol sample.
The use of a thin vapor-tight screen installed directly above the aerosol breakdown allows you to precisely set the mode of activation of the aerosol particles, preventing early condensation of water vapor on them before establishing a thermostatic gradient of water vapor concentration in the chamber. Therefore, in this mode, the manifestations activate almost all ice-forming nuclei and the ice-forming activity of aerosols is determined most fully. All possible ice crystals survive due to the phase distillation of water vapor into crystals.
30Other possible options for the device may be. The screen is manufactured in a circular sector, rotating around a vertical axis, mounted on an annular heat insulator 8. The screen can also be divided into parts (up to four), each of which 25 can rotate around its axis. This will allow one aerosol sample deposited on a disk or filter to appear four times at different combinations of temperature and humidity. thirty
