Description
The invention relates to the purification of gases from phenol and formaldehyde and can be used in the manufacture of mineral wool products, phenol-formaldehyde resins.
The purpose of the invention is to simplify the method by reducing the aggressiveness of the absorbent.
The goal is achieved by a method of purifying gases from phenol and formaldehyde by contact with an aqueous absorbent containing ammonium peroxodisulfate in an amount of 0.22 - 33.6 wt.%, 0.02 - 0.17 wt.%, Ammonia and 0.0002 - 0.002 wt.% silver nitrate.
An oxidizing agent of phenol and formaldehyde is an aqueous solution of siol - ammonium peroxodisulfate. The reaction in the presence of a silver ion catalyst occurs according to the equations
СеНбОН + 14(NH4)2S2O8 + 11Н2О.SeNBON + 14 (NH 4 ) 2 S 2 O8 + 11H 2 O.

-^-*CO2 + 4NH4HSO4.- ^ - * CO 2 + 4NH 4 HSO 4 .
It can be seen from the reaction equations that the non-aggressive salt of ammonium peroxodisulfate is involved in the reaction, and the product of the reaction is ammonium hydrosulfate, and this eliminates the possibility of atmospheric pollution by gaseous substances.
The drawing shows a diagram to illustrate the proposed method.
The method is as follows.
Process gases containing phenol and formaldehyde are fed to the lower part of the foam apparatus 1, and to the upper part
7- 9.1713627A1, an ammonia solution of ammonium peroxodisulfate containing silver nitrate is pumped through a pump 3 from a vessel 2 through a pipeline. The purified gases from the foam apparatus 1 exit into the chimney. A solution of ammonium peroxodisulfate with dissolved phenol and formaldehyde from the bottom of the foam apparatus 1 is sent to a container 2, in which the phenol and formaldehyde are oxidized. A constant 10 pH solution in tank 2 is maintained by supplying fresh ammonia water from tank 4. To maintain the required concentration of ammonium peroxodisulfate, part of the solution is constantly directed to electrolysis cell 5, from which oxidized ammonium hydrogen sulfate is converted to ammonium peroxodisulfate and again fed to tank 2 for the absorber. The reaction occurs in a slightly alkaline medium, the optimal pH of the solution is 7–9.
The technological indicators of the proposed and known methods and the data obtained are shown in the table.
In the proposed method, the reacting substances and reaction products are non-aggressive ammonium salts. The absorbent used is slightly alkaline, therefore not 5 ’is aggressive. As can be seen from the table, the degree of purification of gas technological emissions from phenol and formaldehyde is achieved no less than by a known method.
