Abstract
This invention relates to a technique for producing radionuclides when irradiated by charged particles of stable isotopes. The aim of the invention is to increase the integral yield of the iodine-123 radionuclide at high proton beam currents. To implement the method, the gas target is filled with xenon-enriched xenon gas - 124 to 99.9% by volume, and helium in the amount of 15-25 mol% is added to it. The gas mixture is irradiated with a proton beam with an energy of 15–45 MeV, pumped cryogenically into the decay balloon, and after iodine-123 accumulates, xenon is removed to the storage tank, and iodine-123 is washed off the wall of the decay balloon with an alkaline solution. A 15-25% increase in the integral yield of iodine-123 is achieved while maintaining the high purity of the product.
Description
This invention relates to a technique for producing radionuclides when irradiated by charged particles of stable isotopes.
123.The aim of the invention is to increase the integral output of iodine-123.
To carry out the process, helium in an amount of 15-25 mol% is added to a gas target filled with enriched xenon-124. Then the gas mixture is irradiated with a proton beam with an energy of 15-45 MeV, pumped cryogenically from the gas target to the decay balloon, helium is downloaded, and after accumulating 123 iodine and removing xenon into the storage tank, the iodine 123 is washed off from the wall of the decay balloon with alkaline solution.
П р и м е р 1. PRI me R 1. Gaseous xenon enriched in xenon-124 to 99.9% by volume, using a cryogenic method using liquid nitrogen as a refrigerant, is pumped from a gas storage tank to an intermediate cylinder connected to a gas target, the intermediate cylinder is heated and create in the gas target pressure atm. Helium is then added to the gas target in an amount of 18 mol%. In this case, the pressure in the target increases to 9 atm. The gas mixture is irradiated with a proton beam with an energy of L28 MeV and a current exceeding 1,7 µA. Then the irradiated gas is pumped cryogenically into a decay balloon connected to the gas target, the gas in the decay balloon is maintained, xenon is pumped into the gas storage tank, helium is pumped out of the decay balloon and gas target, and rinsed from the inner surface of the decay balloon iodine 123 with an alkaline solution.
П р и м е р 2. EXAMPLE 2. The method is carried out analogously to Example 1, but 25 mol.% Gels are added to the gas target. At the same time
