Abstract
The invention relates to electron-optical instrument making and can be used in various fields of physicochemical studies, in particular to determine the refractive index. The aim of the invention is to extend the class of substances under investigation to solid media. For this, two interconnected interference patterns of the rays passed respectively through the cell with the test medium and the reference medium, and also only through the reference medium, were created. The optical difference of the code in each pair of interfering beams is then changed by moving a cuvette or a solid sample, made wedge-shaped and with a reflective coating on one of the opposite faces. In this case, the cuvette or solid sample is moved parallel to the face without a reflective coating so that the face with the reflective coating is perpendicular to the refracted beam, which is involved in the formation of one of the interference patterns, and also perpendicular to its reflected beam, which is involved in the formation of another interference pattern. The refractive index of the test medium is judged by the ratio of changes in the number of bands in the interference patterns as a result of a change in the optical code difference. 1 il.

The method is carried out as follows.
Monochromatic radiation from source 2 is divided into two collimated beams with the help of a beam splitter 3 and one of the beam of beams is directed onto a wedge-shaped test substance. Turning the first base of the device, achieve autocollimation of the incident rays on the first face of the wedge, while the rays refracted in the substance undergo normal reflection from the second face of the wedge and return in their original direction. Then the first interference pattern is observed after the reduction of 2 beams of rays. The monochromatic radiation from the source 8 is divided into two collimated beams using a beam splitter 9 and one of the beam of rays is directed onto a mirror 6 aligned with the second surface of the wedge 5. By turning the second base, a normal incidence of the rays on the cuvette mirror surface, i.e. . the autocollimation path of the rays in the air, and observe the second interference pattern. Then the wedge-shaped cuvette 5 is moved while maintaining the condition of autocollimation of the course of the rays, thereby changing the geometric length of the beam path in the study

Count the number of bands in both variable interference patterns using recording devices 1 and 7 and calculate the refractive index n by the formula

Two lasers were used as monochromatic radiation sources, and the beam splitters were made in the form of two translucent mirrors. The test substance was a solid, transparent, wedge-shaped specimen with an unknown wedge angle. To move the sample, a carriage is located on the guides, connected to a stepper motor. Two photodetectors with meters connected to them were used as recording devices.
Точность способа зависит только от точности определени дробной доли интерференционной полосы и составл ет 1,1 -Ю-15 единиц показател преломлени .The accuracy of the method depends only on the accuracy of determining the fractional fraction of the interference band and is between 1.1 and U-15 units of the refractive index.
Using the proposed method allows to expand the range of the studied media due to the additional possibility of determining the refractive index of solids. This achieves a simplification of the method by eliminating the operation of measuring the change in the geometric path length of the beam in the medium under study and the simultaneity of counting the bands in both interference patterns.
