Abstract

FIELD: catalysts for olefin polymerization processes. SUBSTANCE: catalyst for producing polyethylene and ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymers with broad molecular and mass distribution contains intermediate metal compound on magnesium-containing carrier and is distinguished by that, in order to increase catalyst activity and capability of controlling polymer melt index in presence of hydrogen, above said intermediate metal compound is vanadium tetrachloride or vanadium oxytrichloride and above said carrier is a product described by gross formula α where x = 8.1-9.6, y = 0.074-0.56, m = 0.11-0.79, n = 16-20, and p = 2.9-13 and containing (in wt %): 19-23 Mg, 0.2-1.5 Al, 0.3-2.2 Si, 60-72 Cl, and 4.2-19 hydrocarbon moiety, whereas Mg•Al•Si•Cl•Ror VClconstitutes 3.0-12.2 wt %. In a method of preparing catalyst, including interaction of intermediate metal compound with magnesium-containing carrier, distinguishing feature is using above indicated materials and carrying out reaction in presence of carbon tetrachloride at 20-100 C. EFFECT: increased catalyst activity.
