The invention relates to physical optics, more precisely to devices for smoothly changing the luminous flux in photometers, spectrophotometers, for attenuating laser radiation. In order to expand the range of adjustment, as well as increase the smoothness of the adjustment of the luminous flux, one or two regulating pistons 5 and 6 are additionally installed in the integrating cavity of the attenuator. The installation of each additional piston makes it possible to increase the smoothness of the adjustment by about an order of magnitude, so that, with a control range of 15–20%, the device can ensure a smooth change in the light flux in the order of 0.001%. 2 Il. ate at 5 j: co o co o co o co

ОThe invention relates to optical attenuators and can be used in various optical devices, such as photometers, spectrophotometers, for attenuating a laser beam 5, when a particularly smooth change of the light flux is required in a relatively narrow range of intensities with a high degree of stability of the attenuated light flux. ABOUT
The aim of the invention is to expand the range and smoothness of the adjustment of the luminous flux.
FIG. Figure 1 shows the arrangement of the device, the smaller the reflecting ability of the diffusive coating of the cavity and the pistons and the greater the surface area that absorbs the radiation. The light output from the cavity through the exit window is changed by moving (for example, using micrometric screws) the pistons in the cavity: roughly - piston 7 and more smoothly - pistons 5 and 6. This changes the area of the diffusely scattering surface, absorbing radiation in the cavity.

Installation in the cavity of more than three pistons is impractical. Installing one or two additional pistons in the cavity allows one to achieve any necessary smoothness in changing the luminous flux or to reduce the requirements on the free stroke of the piston while maintaining the maximum light control range.

The surfaces of the cavity and the pistons are covered with a diffusely scattering layer 8 with a reflectivity p, 40, which may be different for different pistons. The thickness of the cavity walls in which the inlet and outlet windows are located, as well as the arrangement of these windows in the cavity, are chosen such that their fields of view include only the surface of the integrating cavity (and not the pistons) and do not intersect.
