The electromagnetic wave from generator 1, via attenuator 2, enters the polarization interferometer 3, in which, using the first divider 5, the linear-polarized wave, beneath polarizer 4, is divided into two orthogonal components. The dividers and the interferometer analyzer are made on the basis of polarized wire lattices installed by the angle of the wave propagation axis. The electromagnetic wave component, parallel to the direction of the wires of the grid of the first divider 5, is reflected and enters the reference channel, and the component, which is perpendicular to the wires, passes through the grid, interacts with the test sample 9 and through the third divider 10 enters the second divider 6 in which it mixes with the reference component, which has passed through the phase shifter 7 and the attenuator 8. The total wave enters the analyzer 11, which highlights the first 12 and the second 13 radiation detectors total electromagnetic wave, corresponding to the large and small semi-axis of the polarization ellipse.

е,чThus, by measuring the ellipticity of the microwave wave, one can determine the magnitude of the phase shift, the magnitude of which is related to the dielectric constant of the material. Ellipticity is defined as the ratio of the minor axis of the polarization ellipse to the major, i.e., h
